**Official** 2nd Test @Adelaide, 6th-10th December

Boland has been injured and only played three FC matches this season. In those he has collective figures of 4/245. At 35 it's very far from clear he's the best replacement and can replicate his prior form.
Boland's actually only played two matches. A combined 3/104 in one shield match and 1-87 in the one A game (so 4 wkts @ 47.75)

Australia now has a 15 man squad for Adelaide, which is a huge number for a home test.

But they don't have a batsman that can replace the most out of form player Labuschagne in the top order

Oh wow, didn't realize how utterly sidelined he's been by the current cartel. 38 already, seems like yesterday.
Well I just checked and I'm not quite correct, he's 38 on the 11th. But close enough.

After a bad test on an absolutely lifeless MCG pitch he was discarded. Arguably would have been a better pick than Siddle for the 2019 Ashes. I don't think he was ever in the selectorial clique.

Not part of the club so just as well not exist
Paris was clearly on the radar years ago when he was inexplicably given that ODI series instead of Behrendorff, who was doing way better at the time. He's spent a lot of time injured, but now he's strung together a few matches and is taking wickets for fun, he's ignored. Regardless of what interpersonal cliques may or may not exist, it's quite clear that our selectors get hyper focused on a certain pool of players and loudly signal that they put no value in domestic performance.

After all, it can't be lack of pace keeping him out, Boland, Neser and Abbott are no quicker. And if fitness is a concern, well Hazlewood's had recurring bad patches. It's clear that they think ODI or even BBL form is a better indicator for tests despite this consistently proving not true. And this must extend to ODI experience too, after all Abbott has bowled very poorly in his recent outings. I suppose they'd dredge up the excuse that Abbott is averaging 20 this season, when Paris is doing far better, as is Abbott's teammate Bird.

Also just seen some quotes from a CA manager talking about how the lack of preparation doesn't matter because they're 'a very experienced team'. Experienced yes, but a lot of them are badly out of form and Cummins was conspicuously not even fully fit.

You'd think experience would tell you lack of preparation is consequential and you need preparation to get into form. Atm they are using the early test matches as preparation for the last few.

How is this guy not at the forefront? Has he gone completely off the boil in recent times, because he looked the goods last I saw him?
Not quick enough, from what I remember? Always reminded me of an English style seamer - moves the ball, but doesn't hit the pitch hard enough. Could be a liability on a flat deck.

Haven't watched him recently though

No that’s not it. People should stop the not fast enough excuse as a reason. Lehmann's not coach anymore. We’ve played tons of pace bowlers around Bird’s pace. His problem was that he got injured and when he got fit again others had taken their chances.

Maybe it's the grizzled veteran's folly that they can still 'flick a switch' and get back on point.
