Maybe if he was still playing shield cricket he wouldn’t have done so poorly this test..It’s interesting how Ponting completely dominated shield cricket still as well. Don’t think Smith could do the same

Young 24 > Smith 17People sort downplay smith 17 bgt but he was facing two great spinners who have atg record on sub Continental pitches at their peak at their home on absolute minefields. Those pitches were turning so much that even indian batsmen bar sachin and gavskar could have scored.Smith scored 600 runs on them if that is not atg performance wonder what would be
The only minefield was Pune. Bangalore was a sharp turner but not a minefield. and it had consistent bounce. Ranchi was just a flat patta and Dharamshala was far more up the Aussie lane than India's. And he was extremely lucky in Pune with his 100. I know his performances there are considered world beating but I didn't think they were as great as many others I have seen, including his own exploits in the 2019 Ashes. And I am pretty sure Smith scored 400 runs that series, not 600 over 4 tests.People sort downplay smith 17 bgt but he was facing two great spinners who have atg record on sub Continental pitches at their peak at their home on absolute minefields. Where he should have always been. It’s funny how a couple of bad years and Smith is no longer being rated alongside Tendulkar and Lara and instead being shoved below Ponting, Waugh, Chappell etc.
tbf, he scored 499. (more than Tendulkar ever could) Next Aussie scored 232. Similar to his dominance over Labuschagne in the higher scoring Ashes 2019. Yeah but that is not the only criteria to judge a batsman. If that is so, then the runs Sachin made as a teenager and in his late 30s are also things that Smith can never do...(more than Tendulkar ever could)

He's never been a clear no. 2 after Bradman as a few were prematurely saying a couple of years back.
I said then as I maintain now, let's judge him at the end of his career.
Also the cheatingYeah Smith's 2019 Ashes and that BG series are a huge part of his legacy.
mbSachin scored 499 in 07/08 bgt in Australia
Mate we have had this discussion before.. Ranchi was the deck Saha got a 100 at. Dharamshala was nowhere like any other Indian wicket ever tbh. He batted great and dominated a clearly less than fully fit Ashwin and peak Jadeja as well as good fast bowlers in Bhuvi and Ishant at various times. But it pales in comparison to his own Ashes exploits and many other great batting performances we have seen around the world and even in India.Smith scored 500 runs in the series and the next top scorer on his team averaged 29. Only two other batsmen who played the whole series even averaged above 35. You can debate how tough the pitches actually were for batting, but whatever the reasons were, batsmen found run making really difficult and Smith was easily the best batsman on either team and dominated Ashwin/Jadeja in India in a way no one else has. There's no real way to downplay how great he was in that series overall, and this is coming from someone who thinks that Pune hundred is pretty overrated.
Yes it doesn't matter if we've had this discussion before, that doesn't make you automatically right, probably just makes you wrong twice lol.Mate we have had this discussion before.. Why the aggro? I just meant it maybe futile as we argued this last time and had no success changing each others' views on this. lol.Yes it doesn't matter if we've had this discussion before, that doesn't make you automatically right, probably just makes you wrong twice lol.
Again that ashes had Anderson the greatest post war english bowler not bowling beyond few overs in first innings of first test that doesnt make it less great. Whetever smith 17 bgt and 19 ashes are greatest performances of his genMate we have had this discussion before.. Ranchi was the deck Saha got a 100 at.
