**Official** 1st Test @ Perth, 22nd-26th November

Don't think anyone is saying that the bowlers should be dropped, just managed better across big series. This is definitely still the best attack.
I don't mean from the last few posts talking about resting bowlers. Before that people were bagging Starc and Cummins as reason Aus is losing and complaining no young bowlers had been blooded to replace the big 3.

They have to bat normally and look to bat as long as possible... Even into Monday if it is possible. The problem is this batting line up is just not good enough and neither is this bowling line up outside of Bumrah, given how flat the pitch now is.

It really depends on whether the low bounce we say and some of the cracks having a slight impact - if that increases as the game goes on, then India will have an ally in the pitch which this bowling attack will badly need. If not, Australia should actually fancy chasing down any target, even 400.
This is unfounded Gambhiring IMO. None of the Australian top seven bar maybe Khawaja have shown any useful crease occupation ability for a long time now. No way we are chasing 300 let alone 400+.

As for deciding between Bartlett and Morris as the next cab off the rank, Bartlett is maybe too similar in method to Hazlewood and doesn't really provide the pace to turn the game on its head, even if he looked unplayable bowling a test line in the T20Is.

Pant seriously in his own league as a batter. No one can hit sixes from odd spots like the little ****. His six off Cummins in this game was ****ing insane.

It still shocking how padikkal got ahead of sai sudharsan. Sai scored hundred in a game and has game to do well on bouncy pitches either selectors must be smoking weed or padikkal has their nudes

"McDonald showed sterner defence than his batter's had the day before, dead-batting questions around his team's body language and the fact that his bowling coach, Daniel Vettori, was on the other side of the world preparing for the IPL auction with another employer after the bowlers had gone wicketless through 57 overs."

Mercenary Kiwis and ****old Aussies smh

How good is Jaiswal tho? Proper gun. Hope he has a big series here. He's the future.

Wish we would give Sarfraz more rope. He's not as technically sound but he's got just as much appetite for runs.
I hope this innings has ingrained some hard truths in him for the remainder of his career: wear down the bowlers, spend time in the middle, don't lose your aggression altogether but have the judiciousness to deploy it at the right times, and the runs will come more often than not. Hopefully the other youngsters in the team and squad have been taking notes and have Gambhir drilling it into them for good measure too.

Gill is all flash no substance atm. Wouldn't put him in the same bracket

Sarfraz's younger brother Musheer might be one to look for.
Naah Gill has done well this year. Was good against Eng and Bang and was decent vs NZ too. Was better vs Bang/NZ then Jaiswal too.

Worst of the trio but there is material to work with. He is just 25. Can be a solid 45-48 averaging batsman at peak. The Rahane of the previous trio if you will.

Prolly India's 3rd best batsman currently (way better than current Kohli/Rohit).

Adding to that KL is prolly India's 4th best.

I think in 2 years time India can field a really good team for 2-3 years (ie end of Bumrah's peak).

Gill, Jaiswal, Pant, Sundar should have improved.

KL should still be at his "peak" (which is basically a 35-40 averaging SENA opening batsman).

Two other guys to replace Rohit/Kohli (whose output currently is close to zero).

Plus Bumrah still at his peak. Siraj, Kuldeep, Axar should also be at their current level. Other pacers should improve a bit.

Biggest issue is Bumrah's peak never coincided with Kohli-Pujara-Rahane peak (except for late 2018-19) and by the time Pant-Gill-Jaiswal become real good he'll have become old.

His contemporaries like Mayank Agarwal, KL, Vihari never got going so you don't have those in between batsmen (KL best of the bunch).

Similar to the gen between Sachin-Dravid-Laxman-Sehwag and Kohli-Pujara-Rahane (Yuvi-Gambhir-Dhoni best of bunch and even they weren't as good as the weakest of them Rahane. Maybe Gambhir > Rahane).

Love to see this tbh.

Think it's unlikely given how he's looked but I would enjoy a vintage Kohli knock with a big fist pump at the end.

How are people talking about making bowling changes on the same day where the team has been bowled out for 104 ffs
Well, nobody is talking about changing out Bumrah. I'd argue the other four could be switched around to another reasonable set of four and probably would not have made a major difference. Of course, Reddy's runs were crucial too.
