Two of the greatest to ever play this sport. If you could only pick one of them at their peak for a single test match who are you picking?

Bumrah is brilliant, Marshall was all that, plus express and intimidation when required.

Jasprit does have the reverse though.

I mean that as no disrespect though because in terms of impact and quality I think Bumrah is already top 10.

Burmah may not intimidate in terms of hurting the batsman and that is partly due to the protective equipment.

Bumrah intimidates similar to a pre shoulder injury Curtly Ambrose - Difficult to score runs and may take the wicket as well.

Do you think that protective equipment would have made a difference.

Smith was wearing a helmet when Archer hit him, do most players wear chest and arm protection?

If Bumrah continues to perform at the same rate, this will be a good question when he retires.
If Bumrah hits 300 he's in my all time XI for Wasim. Not an argument, would let the batsmen worry about the batting. Him, Marshall and McGrath would be indomitable.

I think the protective equipment would make a massive difference in terms of intimidation yeah. Both in terms of how intimidated batsmen are by a certain bowler and how much a bowler bowls the short pitched stuff to actually intimidate the batter

If you have a sling action like Lasith Malinga, the batsmen will find it more intimidating.

Jeff Thomson is considered the most dangerous bowler - The combination of bowling at 100mph, a sling action and batsmen having no protective equipment back then

I am a huge Boom fanboy, but labeling him as the "greatest ever" is not just going a stretch, but beyond it comfortably.

Every ****ing test we get a bunch of **** comparisons based on performance in that one test. Its sickening.
I am not comparing careers tho. Just that if people think this version of bumrah is better than peak Marshall. If after this series bumrah goes on to average 18 for rest of his career or averages 30 & retires after 2 years doesn’t really change the answer does it

Not based on one test

41 Tests. 178 wickets at an average of 20.16.

Only the legendary Sydney Barnes has taken more test wickets than Jasprit Bumrah at a lesser average and he played more than one hundred years back

Why weren’t we getting these comparisons during the NZ series?

Anyway to answer the question, Marshall, easily.

Higher WPM despite also playing in a strong attack, and a lot more draws so less overall pool of wickets to take. Takes 5’fers and 10’fers more often.

Akram, Hadlee, Bumrah, Murali
We saw them performing superbly with inferior team support.. In an ATG team they are going to be Gods.

You are taking one series way too seriously and ignoring all the contextual factors for that series. Bumrah bowled decently well in the first test and second test was a spinner’s wicket. Massive sample size to diss on him every chance lol
