The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

A more aggressive specialist bat. Lara, Ponting, Root or probably a bunch of other guys pre 1990 that I don't have the energy to pretend I know about right now
Only pick one of Hammond or Kallis.
For the other spot, get a lefthander: Lara, Sanga, or GPollock. If you want a RH pick Smitj

I think the point is that for a middle order of an ATG XI, we can even concede on a 5th bowling option if we have the best possible bats there.

Kallis is by no means a lock if Sobers isn't there.

That team has a 5th and 6th option though. Like Fuller Pilch said, only need 1 of Kallis or Hammond. They're going to be doing a holding role with the ball at best anyway

I agree. In that case, it should be Hammond as a clearly better bat.

A holding role with the ball shouldn't be a reason to have a lesser bat in the ATG middle order.

Why would you want a more aggressive bat specifically? The lineup is stacked with aggression and lacking in players that can grind the opposition out.

I’m not sure where the line for an aggressive bat is. Is Gambhir considered aggressive?

Agree re Lara. Better to have a lefthander in the top 6 and he can push the rate along
Actually a valid point. With no Sobers the only leftie is in at 7.

Richards

Hutton

Bradman

Tendulkar

Lara (only in this scenario)

Kallis

Gilchrist

Wasim

Marshall

Warne

McGrath

But Kallis is a no brainier and critically fills that 2nd slip slot as Sobers does as well.

Ummmmmmm, so I assume Hadlee is definitely in your team over Imran then. Just using this same logic 👀

Sachin in my mind fills that role, along with Hutton. That's somewhat good enough
