Kohli's also failed in NZ too. Also, Dravid had multiple great tours of ENG, NZ and a WI with Ambrose-Walsh whereas Kohli has only 1 great tour of Aus and the rest are good/decent. Kohli has been consistently great in SA though. Dravid's importance in away wins in the early 2000's including some ATG knocks wins it for Dravid for me. And honestly, it's not particularly close for me in test cricket.
Kohli played 4 tests in NZ. Needs another series there to conclude.

Dravid is England has been great. NZ too. However, I think for an SC bat it's more impressive to do so in SA and Aus where Kohli has done so.

I will grant you that Dravid has high impact knocks in wins whereas Kohli when he scored away usually meant defeat for India. I have to weigh that versus attacking playing style that suits Kohli.

Is close vs Younis. Dravid was a tier above from a technical pov and based on away performances for an extended time. Was arguably better against spin too and even when out of form was much better and more valuable than Kohli has been the last few years.
Yeah guess we are gonna disagree. Kohli was far better than Dravid against pace and bounce as much as Dravid was against lateral movement.

Spin, well, I don't think either has a particular advantage. Warne owned Dravid and Dravid also struggled against Murali a bit. Kohli generally is decent but not outstanding.

Dravid does have longevity to his advantage.

I think Dravid is ahead but regarding Kohli's great overseas knocks repeatedly coming in defeat, that conveys his quality imo as he was turning up when others weren't capable. Not saying reward him for losing but I wouldn't penalise.

Agree with this. Even though Dravid's ahead for me, Kohli's great inns (for ex his twin tons in AUS) can't be held against him just because we didn't win. That's more a reflection on our **** batting than on Kohli.

Yes. I don't penalise Kohli but I give Dravid extra points.

I'm just think though I would rather have a Kohli in my side as all things equal I prefer aggressive players.

If Kohli is an ATG then yes
At his best he definitely was IMO. His decline is so big that it dropped him from sure ATG status to outright borderline, probably I will learn towards outside the border. Still hoping he gets a great tour of each of Australia and England and ends as a legit contender for Asia's 4th best.

Think Tendulkar, Gavaskar, Sangakkara and Dravid will always be ahead.

He's a contender for no5, but the limitations of his spin game have been exposed by a combination of ageing physical attributes and pitches getting tougher. He's had a rough hand since 2019 but I can't think of anyone who reached such great heights that had a decline this bleak.

At his best, he sure was looking like he was going to be an ATG and had a prime of an ATG batsman, but ATGs simply don't have a decline like this. In his prime he had a hunger for runs and competitive drive so high, he was almost willing himself to greatness. That hunger looks gone now, and it feels as though his focus, motivation and technique combined with the age issues, isn't good enough to get him out of his rut. A more complete game would have helped him imo which he lacks slightly.
ATG standard cutoff for me is around Dravid level, who for me has a good margin now on Kohli. I hope though he has a great BGT and turns it around.

Not sure if Kohli is an ATG if he keeps declining tbh. At least not at the same level as ATGs like Ponting, Sangakkara, Kallis etc.

Well with Kohli his decline’s been after Bangladesh 2019.

So the raw numbers since then if you’re looking for a comparable decline

34 matches 59 innings 1837 @ 32.22 2 tons 9 fifties
