I think it's important we have a test opener who sets the tone and if he gets in can dominate and get on top of a bowling attack. I don't think we have anyone else who can do it like Markram. So I guess we have to live by the inconsistencies until we have someone absolutely knocking the door down.
I`ve been more impressed with De Zorzi than Markram. You can feel de Zorzi finding his game finding an improved way of playing. And he is a relatively aggressive batsmen. Markram for all he has been through, all the extra experience, doesn't look any better today than he did 5 years ago. And that is a problem for me. Even though I think Markram has put the effort in we still talking about the same issues.

It's the same for him and Bavuma. They just okay to good test batsman. Meandered along with no real competition & consistency.

TdZ has a long way to go. Could have been out for under 10 here struggling with the a ball coming into him around the wicket like how Seales targeted him. But what I like is how he put it to the back of his mind. Definitely looks the sort who can do better things internationally then he does domestically.

Yes. But he keeps going, and I think he has been improving. And that is what you want to see. Finding a way to score runs consistently.

Miraz is reallly ordinary if he does not get assistance from the pitch. Need to work on finding ways to get batsman out in non subcontinent/flat pitches. We need him in our XI as all rounder.

Agreed. I think we're set with him. It's been under the radar much like Verreynne because people have just looked at the average but they both have looked at home in test cricket from early on, just need to do it more often as they play more.

Long-term Markram replacement? He is a very intense character. I don't think he will want to give up test cricket quickly but that should be fun to see who that would be.

It's so much more noticeable how much more testing it is for RHB facing Taijul than a LHB facing Miraz.

Stubbs rocking a stash that would make a NZ cricketer proud
Have any Saffers rocked one well since readmission? Pringle and McMillan were the mullet men.

But man, the world deserved to see what would have been one of the most famous tash teams with Cook, Kirsten, Lamb, Rice, Jennings, Kourie, Le Roux all rocking wonderful tashes.

I would still look at dropping Markram down to 4 for again if he stays in the team. As future openers I still want to see more of Jono Bird and Joshua Richards. Jordan Herman keeps opening not too sure if that is his position though. Many of the better domestic performers I wouldn't want to see in the SA team at this stage, I would be looking at youngsters more. But that's just me thinking about the long term rebuild.

He's just straight up and down with no variation in flight and he doesn't get it to drift or drop. He is also not a big turner of the ball. It's a huge problem not having Shakib. We suddenly go from having a top class spin attack to a pretty middling one (unless there's help from the pitch).

Also Nayeem sucks. Our spin stock seems pretty thin atm. Rishad is raw but he needs to be blooded in quick. It looks like he will have to learn the art on the job because I dont think he got a team in current ongoing NCL (I could be wrong). Recently Mushtaq Ahmed also said that he wanted to see Rishad in the squad.

I guess it's a case of fitting everybody in but if he went to 4 again you imagine it is for either Bedingham or Bavuma.

I was going to say those 3 too & maybe add Daniel Smith.

Yeah, I'm with you, especially with only 6 tests next year and then a glut of test matches only in 2026/27. If you 30+ things are looking tough for you to get capped.
