they are both bad away from home so it becomes a discussion of tougher home conditionsDear people who voted Compton,
What the actual ****.
Compared to Compton, Kane averages 7 more at home and 8 more away/neutral. It ain't close at all.they are both bad away from home so it becomes a discussion of tougher home conditions
50s English pitches would naturally be harder than modern NZ pitches tho, Compton didn't really get Pakistan/UAE/Ban/Zim to build up his away stats from either plus Compton had respectable tours in every country he toured bar NZ (so SA/Aus/SA) while Williamson haven't really had a good away tour to a country bar the 2015 Aus tour.Compared to Compton, Kane averages 7 more at home and 8 more away/neutral. He bowled left arm leggies. Its the same reason I rate Katich.Dear people who voted Compton,
What the actual ****.
What do you mean? Compton was a superb attacking bat , he would have made a killing today in the T20 eraDear people who voted Compton,
What the actual ****.
At least top 4.In his era, Compton would have ranked in the Top 3 batsmen of the time. Can the same be said about Williamson?
In home and away series against Australia and England. Williamson averages 36.9. His figures are inflated by bully-boy batting against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe and other weaker teams.
Compton, along with his close friend Keith Miller, were the pin-up players during my boyhood years in England.
Williamson is the biggest example of that...... Was ranked 27th in that poll after a run of high scores; and now after a few mediocre series, is losing to Cook (who somehow just wasn't ranked in Top 60, but didn't scrap even a single vote!!).Funnily enough, Compton was ranked 32nd in the poll earlier this year. Williamson ranked 27th. Recency bias is often a big thing after a good/bad match/series here imo.
I think he’ll probably be rated around #40 with guys like Sehwag and Crowe after his career is overWilliamson is the biggest example of that...... Only Hutton is clearly ahead imo, the rest of the 4 are quite debatable with the Ws having similar home/away splits and Harvey failing in England. At least top 4.
Plus I wouldn’t say that with Hutton, Weekes, Walcott and Harvey around post-war throughout his career.
Eh that's not really true, his first tours to SA and Aus were great which can't be said for any of Mahela's away tours, his numbers are really ****ed by the horror tour in 1950 where he averaged 7.5, I'm trying to figure out if he just was that terribe or had some knee problem that tour, it's said that horror tour was a resultant of a terrible knee problem from his football days resurfacing but I'm trying to find the original source for it.Compton was a good player but let’s not act like he was some ATG. He was like Jayawardene/Philander level away from home. He's only an England great since they barely produce any great players. This applies to May as well.
he isn't that bad.I think he’ll probably be rated around #40 with guys like Sehwag and Crowe after his career is over
I think the majority of people outside of this forum will likely still rate Williamson higher since he’ll probably end up with 10k runs @ 50. On this forum it might be Crowe who’s rated higher tho.he isn't that bad.
Crowe though, that would be an interesting conversation.
