Yeah blowout in the end...Matsuyama was terrific in taking down Sheffler though...
With hindsight, questions need to be asked about what happened in the Friday Foursomes. Did they just agree to lose the lot to keep it vaguely interesting? Weir's captaincy on Saturday was so poor too, did they have any strategy, any plans for what they'd do in certain scenarios? Felt like he just picked the Canadians to keep the crowd involved. Why would you leave a Major Champion off the golf course all of Saturday and then send him out first against Xander?

Luke Donald analysed stats so much that he was setting tee positions to guarantee 175yd approaches as he knew Europe were better than US at that. International may not have as good golfers, but if they're to have any chance, they need a captain who will take the job seriously.

Elsewhere, a superb Spanish Open with Hidalgo choking then somehow finding himself again to see off Rahm in the play off. Some of the best tournaments this year have been on the DP Tour (Irish, Scottish, Wentworth etc).

The Presidents Cup is a mess and has been for years

Nobody denies that Scott is a top golfer but he’s never played on a winning team & Ryder Cup only became consistently relevant after it became Europe v USA

Some sort of change needs to happen here

I think one thing that would help is switching to Ryder Cup format and only playing 4 pairs matches per session which helps negate the obvious strength in depth the US has. They probably need to get the LIV guys in there, Smith and Niemann for a couple of Canadians would probably have helped. Not picking Cam Davis was another huge error from Weir.

But it's hard to see how anything really changes. There just doesn't seem to be enough talent around the world to create a competitive team, although I do think hosting it in Melbourne might at least help create a difficult atmosphere for the US.

Australia doesn’t care

It’s behind LIV and the Australian Open in popularity

Ridiculous waste of money by an incompetent state government

I like golf and will watch it but there’s far better ways to spend money

I think the more pertinent point in that interview was that he just doesn't really care anymore. The PGA Tour wasn't perfect, but it never created the kind of split amongst pro's that LIV did. You could also argue that LIV golfers should've been nowhere near Wentworth either. Like why is Burmester playing this week for example? It's not like he can even qualify for a Ryder Cup team.

There weren't exactly many PGA guys at Wentworth anyway, and Horschel in particular, has been a pretty strong backer of DP too.

DPWT would be a really good tour if they did a deal with LIV
But the LIV players would only turn up when there's no LIV tournament on. There are also a lot of DPWT players with morals who wouldn't want to have LIV as an option to them either.

Anyway, Hatton winning this for the 3rd time to no great surprise. It's not often I find myself supporting a Belgian over an Englishman, Colsaerts winning would've been cool. But hard to pull for a Liverpool fan from Bucks who normally acts like a petulant toddler.

I was pulling for Nico as well as he needed a good finish to retain his card and was allegedly going to retire if not

He’s too good for that

I maintain that LIV is no different to any other tour & objections against the Saudis are hypocritical

This is who owns the naming rights to the European Tour

I can tell you for a fact that his behaviour is much worse as is that of many Royal Family members

$750 for a ticket to the Ryder Cup?

How about no
I believe the Ryder Cup in Rome was about that for a week's pass. I don't really get why you'd go to this anyway, only 4 matches on the course for 4 of the 5 sessions means it's a tough watch.

I believe the hope was it would price out the rowdy section, coz rich kids are never annoying when they've had a beer right?

One for you @social

Managed to win a decent Pairs Comp yesterday against 40 others, better ball Stableford. We won it with 43 points, this is particularly amusing given my partner scored 42 points on his own. Still, given we won it on countback, that one extra point I managed to add to the scorecard on the back 9 when he wasn't burning it up proved decisive.

Still, when you have a mate who was a scratch golfer as a kid, you encourage him to join the club and he then plays off 7, these are the benefits you can enjoy!!
