Donald >>> Ashwin as a bowler. Marginal batting bonus not anywhere near enough to make up the difference .

Cricketer Donald as well very comfortably imo. Ashwin is noway near a bat good enough to makeup for that bowling difference.
People say Allan Donald >>>> Ashwin because he looked the part and was just a beautiful, brilliant bowler (and childhood hero of mine). But he wasn't exactly brilliant abroad and a spud against Australia which was the real rival. Ashwin is an order of magnitude more impactful which is reflected in hiw overall wicket total, WPM and increasingly, average. And that's before the batting.
Give me an argument for Donald beyond the aesthetics.

How was Donald not great abroad?
the only abroad that matters for a South African is Australia. Beating up on 1990s England or India is not a thing. That's like Ashwin beating up on the West Indies

Donald averages 28 in Australia, 23 in England, 16 in India and 24 in NZ...... Can't see any reason behind his away record being bad. Ashwin really is not a great bowler in most tough places away.
28 in Australia is pretty **** for an ATG pace bowler. England, India and NZ in the 90s is like Bangladesh today.

No, but he's not miles away either. Murali was a disaster in India and Australia (worse than Ashwin anywhere). The only reason Murali is ahead is longevity.

on a compltetely unrelated note, how does it feel to be a Pakistan fan who got swept by Bangladesh who in turn got swept by India, losing one of those tests in two days

If only the BCCI showed him the same respect instead of dropping him for away tours throughout his career. Making Ashwin wear a bib at the WTC final was humiliating for an ATG bowler.
