Rank these ATGs away from home

don't know about that, I say he has some iconic tours but overall he loses out to the other two on the principal of consistency, I definitely think 2015-2019 Kohli was better aways than the other two, outside of that? I don't know.
Consistently only struggled in England. Root has as much struggle in Australia; and lacks Kohli's ATG one there; or anyone else really.

that's a fair argument actually, Kohli certainly is ahead in Australia and South Africa, while Root ahead in Newzealand, Lanka and the Carribean.

Yeah, and on that note; Virat played in NZ 4 matches only; and SL and WI are clearly much easier to tour. Though at each other's home, Root has done overall much better.

Yeah seems about a fair assessment to me, seems a lot closer than I thought it would be maybe I overestimated how bad Kohli's decline phase was, seems like a country by country basis.

I mean, arguably the best ever in SA, consistently Great in Australia and only struggled in England; but also has an ATG series there.
I don't think Kohli has been consistently great in Aus though, has the ATG series, but bar that Kohli has averaged , below 40 in every other

In his decline, between 2020-22 (scored quite well in 2023, didn't played this year), he played 20 games. A single one in Australia (actually scored 86), 1 series in England (sucked as usual), 2 matches in NZ (was very poor), 2 in SA (actually turned out quite well) and the single WTC Final vs NZ (scored 40 odd in an innings)

His overall output in Australia is still Excellent. Averaged 40 odd in the 2018 one and was our best batsman in that disaster of 2021.

Ohh it's definitely more than good enough. Overall, probably our best bat on tour to Aus bar Sachin
Top 5 Non English tourist of SA imo.

Edit: Meant Australia. Elsewise it was a weird thing to say..... Believes Kohli is the best one in SA.

Let me think......
Richards and Tendulkar are the most easiest. De Villiers probably, Martin Crowe and Kohli. A case for Lara as well, but his best vs Australia came at home.
Richards and De Villiers in tourists? Ohh you're talking for Australia or SA?

Waugh
Lara
Dravid
Kallis
Sangakkara
Ponting.
Anyone being last is harsh when it's six all time greats, but that is stiff on Ponting. Batted 3 and not at all flawed outside India and perhaps a rough decline but he had a very long career.

His relative lack of marquee performances overseas is easily excusable through playing for a team that were relentlessly steamrolling the opposition (particularly in his prime); which makes iconic performances difficult to come by as the team are constantly well on top and expected to win etc.

Sanga wasn't as bad anywhere as Ponting in India, but wasn't great in England, India or South Africa. I think his record is slightly less balanced. Could have put him last. Kallis doesn't have the marquee overseas performances of the top 3 but is an all-conditions run machine. Better in Asia than Dravid in Aus/SAF. Interchangable.

Australia.
In SA:

Kohli (best imo), Tendulkar (the only one close), Hobbs, Waugh, Ponting.

Edit: on the first comment I thought I wrote Australia, but seems I did SA. Anyways, Kohli I believe is the best tourist in SA, Tendulkar being the only one close with an honourable mention to Hobbs.
