Root is a better player of spin imo. Lateral movement wasn't ponting's stongest point either.
Still think it's ponting, which obviously will be debatable in the next 2 or 3 years.

Root has one, and only one, technical weakness that I've ever seen, which is that his back foot play behind square which is so productive for him in English conditions opens him up to significant risk in bouncy conditions against bowlers who really hit the deck hard. But that's about as much as I can come up with.

Ofcourse you can!!! A few days ago I tried to reject my mother's "request" to accompany her to a relatives house; I rejected, and she rejected my rejection.
It is still a bit confusing to me. What if you rejected her rejection of your rejection?

Ponting still for me. Root has the respect of other sides but I doubt he fills you with fear like Ponting did me. Only Viv and Ponting gave me that feeling and obviously Lara and Tendulkar once they got in but Pontings wicket was probably the one I wanted us to get most in his career given the magnitude of the matches and how he destroyed us so often.
Exactly this.

I think Ponting is clearly better but not sure he's easily better.
I know this makes no difference to some, and pisses off about three, but Ponting damn near scored at a strike rate of 60, and Dravid barely avoided one of 40, not in the 40's, but 40.

Punter was the better batsman and also (though not applicable to this comparison) the better slip.

From watching their respective careers it never appeared close to me. Ponting at one point was being spoken of as being in the discussion of the best since Bradman (and remember who only slightly preceded him), Dravid was never seen as being in that class.
