Hadlee easily overall and just on primary skills. Far more valuable to be a great fast bowler than a great batter.

More valuable sure, don't know is the "far" is applicable. Both are essential to a winning team.

Sure, but one is a rarer commodity than the other, and Hadlee is far greater in his discipline than Viv.

I stated Hadlee earlier, and stand by that, but to say far greater when comparing the two when one is seen by many as a candidate for 2nd all time, made the Cricinfo and Wisden teams and countless more such recognitions, vs the guy I rank 3rd all time for bowlers and I have never seen in an all time team... Is a bit of a stretch.

Viv as a bat had no weaknesses in his record was undisputed no.1 of his time.

Hadlee's record as a bowler is built pretty much on NZ, Aus and Eng. Had a dud series in the WI and only 1/3 quality series in the Indo-Pak.

Yeah cos Viv had no dud series.
Viv had quality series everywhere except a single poor series in NZ.

Problem with Hadlee is his success is so concentrated in the easiest bowling countries. 69 of his 86 tests were in Aus, NZ and Eng. Excluding SL a minnow, he has 13 tests outside and only one good series out of four, and not succeeding in WI does raises questions.

Hadlee also got the opportunity to minnow bash SL which Viv did not. I can imagine if you reversed the minnow bashing and Viv averaged 52 and Hadlee 23 many votes would be switched.

I'm going to go Viv here. Slightly better in his specialty and a good captain, slip catcher and occasional bowler.
Man I’m the biggest Richards fan here(along with you sure), but Hadlee is a top 3 bowler of all time(and his record in India and SL really also good and in WI it’s not bad), and a very useful lower order bat. I think they are tied in their primary skills, but Hadlee is far superior in his secondary skill. Viv was an underrated bowling option in ODIs, not tests. However since it’s Viv, I won’t complain if it’s a vote in his favour.

Yes Hadlee is top 3, but Viv is also top tier (top 4 / 5 for me) so the gap in primary skills is minimal at best if not equal.

Yes Hadlee was a decent lower order bat, but Viv was the best fielder of his time and a great slip as well. I have Hadlee 5th and Viv 7th, so really not much in it.

Same I have Hadlee 5 and Viv in my top 10.

I was going to comment how they aren't close at all but then I remembered I voted Viv 6th and Hadlee 8th in GOAT cricketer's poll...... Albeit Viv at least jumped 10 spots on ODIs.
I mean Hadlee is ahead by a clear margin, but he is number 5 for me, and Viv is number 9/10 probably in the top ten.
