Mostly from India I thinkNot a player but Steve Bucknor...tortured (bucknored) batsmen and bowlers alike for a couple of decades, wasn't he almost universally reviled towards the end?

Continuing the theme of champion quicks who didn't go out as they deserved, a couple of Aussies:Some of England's finest quicks went out with a a whimper due to being picked for a series when they were just that bit past it.
Bob Willis - 3 tests against WI in 1984 for combined figures of 6 for 367
Gus Fraser - 2 tests in Australia in 1998 for combined figures of 4 for 229
Darren Gough - 2 tests against SA in 2003 for combined figures of 1 for 215
He was ****. The India series marked him because of overzealous fans but his career is a litany of shockers against all sorts of teams.I liked Bucknor. Just seemed like a chill dude. Umpiring is a damn hard job so mistakes will be made
One of my friends hates Tendulkar for delaying his retirement.Tendulkar despite the fanfare he got at the end suffered through one protracted dwindling unbecoming of someone touted as an all-time Top 3. Come to think of it, Bradman didn't go out quite on top either lol. Let's see how Smith goes.
Looking at his test matches on cricinfo (against Pakistan in 1992), he was pretty unlucky.David Gower
If you remember it was a massive furoreLooking at his test matches on cricinfo (against Pakistan in 1992), he was pretty unlucky.
73 when he was recalled for the 3rd test, two unbeaten innings in the 4th test, and 27 at 1 at The Oval when W&W skittled everyone with their express pace reverse swing. On the face of it, he was dropped for one low score although we all know that wasn't the real reason. He'd probably have been handy in the Indian tour that followed.
Yes I do. iirc Russell was the other non-selection that caused a fuss.If you remember it was a massive furore
And it lasted so long. iirc he barely did a thing in the 1987 series against Pakistan did even less in the couple of tests that he played in the 1989 Ashes, may or may of done anything in NZ in 1992 and was completely out of his depth against Pakistan that summer. Have I forgotten anything?Botham, just because he was such a shadow of what he used to be.
His last 100 was 86/87. He should have retired after that series really. And it lasted so long. iirc he barely did a thing in the 1987 series against Pakistan did even less in the couple of tests that he played in the 1989 Ashes, may or may of done anything in NZ in 1992 and was completely out of his depth against Pakistan that summer. Rightly so. He went from being near undisputed no. 2 to having challengers vying for that spot. Must be said he never looked like crap technique or reflex-wise during that lean final lap, just that the runs stopped coming. One of my friends hates Tendulkar for delaying his retirement.
