What do you mean bro , you guys are the defending Champs and all your players have played in T20 leagues around the world.
Pommy supporters are great value. Last few years there's always the excuse "it's ok we are great at white ball" when they suck at Tests, or "we are focussing on baz ball in tests" when they suck at white ball.

I didn't predict it would extend to "we suck at all cricket because we are focussing on the hundred" lmao

In all seriousness this was a classic "scoreboard pressure" game. Chasing 200 in a T20, you really need to do everything right. All it takes is a few quiet overs and you are genuinely ****ed if the bowlers don't let you back in

What’s the go with Harry Brook? I thought he was supposed to revolutionise cricket or whatever but he seems to have gone backwards at a rate of knots. Has he just been worked out as a hack slogger or is he out of form/ returning from injury or something?

It was a moral victory for England.

Me saying salt>>>Jacks has become a bit of a meme, but honestly I’m not fully bought into Jacks. I like the look of our top five as a collective but Jacks hasn’t sold me at all. And that over, less said the better.

Giving Jacks the second over was just matchup obsession gone mad. A great start from Moeen and we squandered it. If you really wanted an offy then throw the ball to Livingstone? But really - just throw it to Joffra, no?

We were sloppy in the field, I reckon 10-15 runs could have been saved. And when we batter, Australia made no such mistake.

A couple of the wide calls against Jordan were harsh, one in particular was ridiculous, but he gave away too many extras overall.

Joffra bowled well and I thought Moeen did okay, as did Rashid.

Hindsight being what it is, I guess we needed a 100+ partnership for the openers to really be in the game. Jacks dithered, and the less said about Bairstow’s innings the better. He was the main culprit in the field too. He gets a lot of unfair stick at times but he stunk the joint out today.

I get we’ve earmarked Brook for the finisher role, and that’s all well and good, but what use is holding back a finisher when you’re so far behind the 8 ball?

Moeen batted okay, about what you’d reasonably expect from him I guess. Livingstone was frustrating, and I’m a fan of his.

Baby and bathwater come to mind, so probably don’t need to overreact, but Topley should come in for Wood. What Jordan adds in the field shouldn’t be underestimated, so don’t count me in the ‘get him out’ camp but Curran in for him wouldn’t be the worst move.

If any of the batsmen were to drop out, I’d shift Jacks. Bairstow is on thin ice sure, but he has a lot more in the bank than Jacks and the ‘bowling’ that WJ brings is not a factor worth any consideration as we saw today.

Onwards and upwards. I guess we could come to rue that abandonment against Scotland, but shouldn’t be beyond us to put big wins on the board in the next two and go from there.

All the above being said, credit where it’s due. Australia were excellent in all disciplines today. Zampa was immense.

I say this literally every single ICC event but holy **** Star Sports are a putrid broadcasting outfit. It's been over a decade and they still can't do sound engineering and mixing to a remotely competent level. Horrible to listen to.

Being good two years ago doesn't really mean anything now. And all sorts of people play in T20 leagues around the world. Doesn't necessarily mean they're top tier players. The evidence was there for all to see in the 50 over WC, and was there again today. Also in the half innings that was managed against Scotland, in case we forget.
Yeah Australia won in the UAE and were poor less than 12 months later

T20 is evolving pretty quickly plus players don’t have time to play themselves back into form

It’s not like a tests where you can excuse a good player for having a poor run in one series because there’s another one against a different opponent coming up

Yep, the game was pretty much decided in the first 5 overs. The daft decision to bowl Jacks when you suspect Archer would've kept the pressure on (and has a great record against Warner too). Not sure why they opted to bowl on a used pitch either, the laptops are continuing to have way too much influence.

Still, England T20 campaigns have been here before. Worth remembering that Aus were poor at the start of the 50 over World Cup too. It's not how you start tournaments, it's how you finish them.

Both captains said they would have bowled and it wasn’t a used pitch. The rationale was precisely because they had no idea how it was going to play. Don’t think you can blame the laptops for this one.

From a Surrey pov, my view of Jacks hasn't shifted. At county level, he's good for a lively 30 in these games but rarely goes on to produce something substantial. At this level, I think we're unlikely to see even that.

Whatever it takes!!!
Well, you cant say this WC hasn't been interesting, that is for sure. The pitches (and the toss decisions) have made the games look more uneven than the actual sides picked. Australia have had the best start tbh. But wont count England out of this one just yet.
