Steyn and Morkel is a great attack. And the 2019 attack Smith wasn’t great(Archer and a decent Broad isn’t great). He did well vs great attacks during Eng 2015, Ind 2017, SA 2013. Nz 2016 is very good, but not great(Boult+Southee+Wagner. Steyn and Morkel is far superior). And Sachin’s 99 series in Aus was a very good one, falling short of great very slightly.
I disagree but we're all entitled to our opinion.

Sachin’s series vs SA and Smith’s series close atleast, given Steyn’s form in prior, and that Sachin scored 2 100s on that tour, and made that series very close. Kohli’s 2018 tour better then both tho

Because I saw the game. And if you don't believe me, here is a Day 1 match report:

'The South Africans? They were awful after lunch. As fatigued as they might have been late in the day, there aren’t many plausible excuses for the listless, directionless bowling performance before and after the arrival of the second new ball. Steyn was threatening early in the day but off the boil when times got tough and Philander much the same. Morne Morkel occasionally bowled with menace but was culpable in the field, lolling about at a desperately low tempo that was indicative of South Africa’s malaise.

The Australians will sleep well tonight but also know that South Africa rarely puts in two shockers in a row.'

Don't compare the above with Steyn bowling arguably his greatest ever spells at home against India.
Shockingly, when ATG bowlers are bowling their greatest ever spells, batsmen don’t tend to score a lot of runs.

Here is a sample of Steyn bowling in the 1st test when Tendulkar scored his hundred.

Here is a sample of Steyn bowling in the 3rd test when Tendulkar scored his other hundred.

Steyn was at his best in that series. I never seen him bowl better.

I don't think he realises what he is actually saying here.
I do but I've already gotten out of Subz what I wanted ie to admit that Smith is in the same category for 2nd best along with the Sachins, Hobbs and Sobers. We can argue where he fits but he's there. That's of course completely dependent on his career not completely tanking from here on out.

Fair enough. I had that position for some time now but don't mind clarifying again.

Loved the article, favorite line of course
"I looked at Viv and wondered what it must feel like to be good enough to decide to destroy a test bowler in the next few deliveries - and to do it with such authority."

It shows how he impacted the bowlers, effected field changes and basically the entire game plan, in an over.

It's not the be all and end all, but it's something.

Rodney Hogg, great example
