He's right though. The romantic accounts of Ranji inventing certain basic shots are wildly exaggerated. He just based his game more around them than those prior.

It'd be like saying Andy Flower invented the reverse sweep.

Or is it like saying that Irish wanker introduced riverdancing to the world. He didn't invent it, but he sure did bring it to the fore of people's minds. (What a sorry phase of history that was!)

Edit. Because that article says he introduced...not invented.

I simply thought the statement he 'introduced [] back foot defence' might have seemed odd and inspired a bit more curiosity. While styles have changed and maybe he was an early user of the more chest on style, back defence had been fundamental pretty much since pitched bowling, the rough 'natural' pitches demanded it.

In India many kids used to play Stick and Stone game on the Road. Legend says that British when they were in India saw this Game and invented Cricket. Stone was replaced with a Ball. Stick and Stone Game Experts say that Reverse Sweep was invented long time ago so long ago we cannot predict how long ago.

Dude, I will let you finish but cricket has been around from the late 16th century and has gone through such massive changes from the ball delivery to the type of bat being used...... Who says this things???

British claim that lot of Sports originated in England but it wasn't. They got lot of ideas once they start visiting other countries for trade and eventually colonizing them.

The oldest written record of cricket, agreed universally upon by scholars dates back to a court proceeding over a piece of common land in Surrey in 1597, where a 59 year John Derick testified that he and his schoolmates have played creckett there while attending Free School over fifty years ago....
The oldest reference of cricket being played as an adult sport dates back to 1611, when two men were prosecuted for playing cricket on Sunday instead of going to Church.
Look, I hate the colonist Britishers as much as you do, if not more. But this "cricket originated in India" claim is just plain wrong without any historical backing.

Historical documents written by British Anthropologists before 1950s a lot of them are proven wrong. Just because you see an information in Internet it won't become absolute truth. For Example : Earth is Round is what most Asians used to believe for Centuries. But many European and Middle East Kingdoms used to believe Earth is Flat. These People when they started trading with Asian Countries got the idea that Earth can be round.

You have to understand that People in Power will manipulate many things for making the masses believe that they are Stronger and Smarter. I don't hate British but what i am saying is its human nature around the World.

While the referenced part is true, be careful you don't take it to the other extreme, as I've seen a couple time already btw.

what extreme you mean ?, British Anthropologists many accept this themselves. Its not my opinion. I am an Anthropology Student myself and there is concept called Ethnocentrism. You have to read books a lot to get the clarity.
