Who is the better bat?
Yeah I think Inzi vs Sehwag would be closer.Younis pretty easily imo. Sehwag is one of the finest in Asia, but a liability in SEN; where arguably KL Rahul is a better batsman.
if Viru had the type of discipline or application even Rohit showed in his tour of England he would have been 1 of the greatest openers in test cricketThe difference here is more of a mentality thing rather than any technical deficiencies. Younis' record in SA/Aus/Eng mildly overstates his actual ability to play bounce/swing, so he did have his weaknesses too. He just had a discipline and ruthless ability to dominate on the occasions when he got a pitch to his liking in those countries which Sehwag didn't.
Or a great middle order bat.if Viru had the type of discipline or application even Rohit showed in his tour of England he would have been 1 of the greatest openers in test cricket
he would have been a middle order batsman if he was batting todayOr a great middle order bat.
It is hard to say he was unquestionably better. Sehwag was an opener which is probably the most difficult role in batting, so there is that. However, Younis was very valuable in saving (or winning) series at home and abroad. It isn't like Younis didn't perform at home. He did, but he was also probably better abroad than Sehwag.Wouldn't you say the same approach that led Sehwag to overperform in conditions he plays 70% of his cricket in, had him underperform in the remaining 30%
I don't see how this is bad. He was unquestionably more valuable than Khan.
First off, he played 50 percent at home. If you add Pak and SL, it's 60 percent.Wouldn't you say the same approach that led Sehwag to overperform in conditions he plays 70% of his cricket in, had him underperform in the remaining 30%

No, he wasn't. He wasn't even unquestionably more valuable in the subcontinent. You would seriously have to downplay YK's mastery of genuine turners to arrive at that conclusion. How many 4th innings gems did Sehwag play? You are downplaying how much of a no contest this is outside Asia and how good Younis was in Asia especially on rank turners where I'd have him over Sehwag so no wonder Sehwag seems more valuable.Wouldn't you say the same approach that led Sehwag to overperform in conditions he plays 70% of his cricket in, had him underperform in the remaining 30%

Frankly I don't care about who did better in WI once Ambrose Walsh retired.Tbf, Younis averages 39 outside Asia (excluding Zimbabwe), and Sehwag averages 36 so I'd struggle to call that too one-sided.
This is mainly due to WI, yes.
He already was.if Viru had the type of discipline or application even Rohit showed in his tour of England he would have been 1 of the greatest openers in test cricket
