Was WI ATG team overhyped?

I don't think Windies team is over-rated but I think Lance Gibbs is over-rated. To win in Asia, a good spinner is required.
Slightly tongue and cheek but obviously SA won in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan etc with Symcox, Eksteen, Adams, Boje, Harris, Maharaj etc

Last series win India. Our quicks, even in the series before this and the couple after this were excellent.

Maybe I exagerrate but India would be tough to bear at home by any atg XI. Most Atg teams should be tough at home, but Australia for example is probably winning away to all teams except for in India (and possibly in the WI). And Australia has the strongest Atg team of all.
Aus ATG XI with Bradman and Warne/O Reilly? Yeah they beat India comfortably.

Not correct example. Boje was phenomenal in that series .
So this only validates my point that if India gives raging turner , you need a spin bowler to take advantage of it .

And why you are assuming they will always bowl first ? They can also bowl in 2nd and 4th innings.
And I would back them to defend even 200 in 4th innings.
Warne still is below par in the 2nd innings.

I would back the pacers to also defend 200 but also to get a team out cheaply in the 1st innings.

Yeah a spinner of Boje level if it's a lottery raging turner.

Fair. But there were other series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Remember how dreadful we have been on our last 2 tours on some real turners. Probably more down to our batting now though how poor we have been.

Boje had the tools too. I don't think our mentality of being attacking and trusting enough of our spinners was around yet. Funnily enough it only started with Graeme Smith backing the least talented in Paul Harris that we started giving our spinners more of the above as mentioned.

Relatively comfortably. Obviously India win a game here or there. Though on second thought it depends on Aus bowling attack selected.
Precisely. Australia would likely tour with Warne, Lillee, McGrath and Bill. Warne is a no factor and Bill and Dennis are completely out of their element having never actually played in India.

I think contrary to how it's presented, using pace to win in India is a more viable strategy than using spin.

83 WI won through pace.

86/87 Pak won the series on a lottery spin pitch.

2000 SA won through pace mainly, Boje only took a fifer to seal it when it was a foregone conclusion.

2004/5 Aus won with their pace trio and Warne was support.

2012 Eng definitely won with Monty/Swann combo and Anderson support.

Another reason SA have done well in Asia because most of our batsmen absolutely loathe facing fast bowlers. So pitch doesn’t matter . Bowl 2-3 consecutive maidens they would give their wickets easily.

We aren’t even discussing their batting most of whom struggle in India .
Aus won in 2004 due to Martyn. Without him they aren’t winning that series

Bill and Dennis are wildcards we don't know how they would do.

In that case India probably start as favourites. But Australia definitely would have good enough chances regardless.
Actually you should pick your best Team according to conditions .

I also want Laxman and Pujara to play against Aus both of whom don’t make our ATG team anymore .

You should also pick Martyn and Gillespie
May the best Team win
