Was WI ATG team overhyped?

Wi batting was awful around 1999/2000. It was just Lara and a bunch of hacks. Jimmy Adams had a Voges-like start and Chanders wasn't that good yet
Give credit to your bowling line up also . They also made Indian batting look like joke in 1999 series.
Sometimes when great bowling line ups hit their rhythm , batting strength doesn’t matter .

I can also say that Warne + Murali + Oreilly + Ashwin can win you Test anywhere .
Obviously not to the same degree.

Ashwin is poor outside SENA. Also, in 1st innings, all of these spinners perform below world class level.

I don't see why 4 ATG spinners hypothetically couldn't be just as effective outside Asia as 4 ATG quicks could be in Asia, which I think is what sunilz is saying
All their hypothesis is based on WI winning 1 Test series in Asia against Pakistan.

Didn’t Murali or Warne win Test matches on their own in England? So we can also say Teams don’t need pace bowler to win Test in England.

But they definitely have more chance with this bowling attack

Marshall
Ambrose
Garner
Gibbs
Sobers
I actually give no atg team a chance of winning in India and that includes WI. The spin of touring teams would be gobbled up by the likes of Sachin, Sunny ,Sehwag etc. The pace would also be neutralized by their wickets even if they are effective. Then India's spin bowling who are experts at exploiting home conditions would do their thing.

You are slightly overestimating our batting line up . 😊
We have lost Test matches at home to Afridi, Udal and collapsed against Clarke and Root .

Believe me if we are chasing 300 in 4th against your attack our Team is definitely losing

True but can you imagine Kumble, Ashwin and Jadeja bowling in tandem plus Bumrah. And, India bats deep. I'd personally go with:

Sehwag
Sunny
Dravid
Sachin
Kohli*
Dev
Pant+
Jadeja
Ashwin
Kumble
Bumrah

This lineup isn't collapsing at home vs any spinner.

Except they won't. Pace won in 83 against a strong Indian batting lineup. Aus also won in 2004/5 due to their pace combo.

Nah .
Aus defeated SL in SL 3-0 despite trailing in all the Test in 1st innings. Can’t ignore Warne/Murali running riot in 3rd innings at all.
Those are exceptional circumstances.

Giving a lead every game is a recipe for a defeat. If it's a green wicket, expect a big lead.

And why you are assuming they will always bowl first ? They can also bowl in 2nd and 4th innings.
And I would back them to defend even 200 in 4th innings.

Maybe I exagerrate but India would be tough to bear at home by any atg XI. Most Atg teams should be tough at home, but Australia for example is probably winning away to all teams except for in India (and possibly in the WI). And Australia has the strongest Atg team of all.
