Is Venkatapathi Raju ATG?

Does it hurt knowing he’s going to bitchslap your team again and again and again?
No he's fine bowler, but he's not an all timer while he's packing an away average in the 30s and has only been deemed good enough to be selected by his own country in 26 away tests in a 12 year career.

Edit: he's not an all time bowler, I should say. He's certainly an AT Indian great though in that he'd be in the mix for selection in their AT XI as an all rounder.

Which would put him in about the sixth or seventh AT Aus XI I guess, which is decent in the scheme of things.

I think most would agree that he’s not an all time bowler
But an all time all rounder who has contributed time and again with key performances in victories away as well (mostly with the bat but occasionally with the ball and in the field), and absolutely demolished opposition at home with bat and ball

Yeah, so basically what I just said.

There's literally a thread asking if he’s an ATG bowler though.

But yeah, certainly an Indian ATG all rounder.

Back to Venkatapathy Raju, with the predictable exception of a list of English offspinners, he put as few revs on the ball as any specialist spinner I've seen footage of. Needed the pitch to absolutely spitting to turn it back against the round the wicket angle.
I remember him having nice drift and occasionally dip as well but it was all so gentle and probably not a function of revs or body behind the ball. Almost like the ball was too large for his hands.

Raju was a tiny guy for sure…
Have seen him live. Was tad taller than Aravinda de Silva. Tendulkar is also similar height to Aravinda. Hence cannot say he was tiny. The way he releases the ball, he must have had extraordinarily long fingers. Aravinda and Tendulkar when bowling finger spin released it much different to him.

That's just height. Aravinda and Sachin are chubby blokes though

Never thought I'd see TJB downplaying the importance of height.
Not what I was doing. Height is just as, if not more important. I don't consider anyone below, say 5'10, or under 90kg or over 15% bodyfat, a man.

Edit: actually scratch that last one. You can be a relatively fat **** as long as you're strong enough

Still think he was a tiny guy…
