8th on the all time FC list ..

Gotta enjoy being ahead of Bradman's test average while it lasts. You normally don't get more than 1 test to enjoy that feeling.

He scored 61 in his test debut 2 years ago and hasn’t played again until now

2 years sounds a lot but we don't play a lot of Test cricket.
So you are talking about max 9 or 10 tests .

So in Sri Lanka's top 6 there are quite a few players who are locks such as Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis ,Angelo Mathews , Dhananjaya De Silva and Dinesh Chandimal plus an opening position which Kamindu is not suited to which is currently held by Madushka.

That means if Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal do not want to keep wicket , the No.7 slot can only be filled by a wicketkeeper which has been filled by the likes of Sadeera Samarawickrama and Niroshan Dickwella both who have failed at Test cricket, which forced the selectors to look at a different strategy, and so Kamindu Mendis was recalled and Kusal Mendis took the gloves.

or maybe he simply knew the game was up, two days to play and close of play being say 30/0 or 47/5 (the latter of course the case) was going to make no difference.

some with a bit of fantasy in mind might argue should always play for the thinnest of thin possibility of rain, but maybe they are more realistic


anyone a bit bored? and by one or two threads about some must be, how about how many times a target of 360+ has been chased or even 360+ managed in a losing effort playing bazballs...... doesn't even have to be "official" bazballs, simply went hell for leather and got close to, past 350, or even didn't collapse in a pathetic heap

Yeah, sorry, there's "Well, not much point poking and prodding, might as well have a go at it..." and there's that....

For arguably the best batsman in the side (2nd best average, and Mominul ain't been much lately) to do that is a bit of a kick in the teeth for supporters and team-mates.

Particularly when Sri Lanka just showed that if you can see off the new ball, batting gets pretty easy later on.

Yeah ffs. Consistently the case over the last 2-3 horrible years that they just lose 4-5 wickets on placid Deshi decks while the ball is new and then realise when the lower order is in how easy it was. Meanwhile the opposition makes 400.
