70 ATGs across a century and a half of cricket's history is not a big number. My brain can't really compute that people don't think guys like Waqar, Miandad, Dravid, Donald, Border aren't ATGs. You guys are just weird and have overly restrictive, made up and arbitrary criteria for this **** to make yourselves feel smart imo.

Then I don’t care. I don’t believe in analysis by checklist, and I’m very happy with how I consider things. I think if you’re the best player in the best team in the world at a given time, that covers a wide array of performances. Same if you’re the best at your specialty. And if you are there by weight of statistical accomplishments, that means you’ve performed well enough over your career.

Thisexcessive focus on away performance is the preserve of a group of India fans who grew up at a particular time.

SENA is not a thing - it only exists on this board.

In the real world, no one cares. And in the real world both Anderson and Ashwin are indisputable ATGs
Wait...so you can discredit everyone because 'bad in india' but now 'bad everywhere else' is ok to get Ashwin a woodie and you've rescinded 'bad in India'. If SENA is not a thing, is India a thing?

Will you really call Anderson ATG just so that Ashwin can be called ATG? That is rather sad, but if that's how it goes then I'll cede Broad is ATG so that everyone calls Merv Hughes ATG.

So an ATG appears every second year? Being overly restrictive isn't weird or done to make one feel smart, it's just a matter of being more selective. To each his own. Neither is right or wrong, it's all a matter of individual perception.

Tbf to make people call Merv Hughes ATG you have to make Angus Fraser or Dominic Cork one, Stuart Broad's not gonna work....

Yeah I posted about it a little while ago. Sidenote: I noticed Procter is not in it whilst Pollock and Richards were inaugural inductees - I hope that will be rectified with recent events.

I never understand why some people have no problem rating Barry Richards higher than he proven himself really based on one Test series and 5 WSC games; but they don't extend the same courtesy to Procter.....

Kapil Dev has just commented if the world's second best bowler is not played in test eleven, neither should India's best batsman Virat Kohli in T20I WC. So he is regarded high by an ATG himself.

Comparatively lots of bowling all rounders, 4 accepted great openers, so we reach.

At Procter's level?? There are many who believe that he would had ended up a Top 10 bowler of the calibre of Imran; and also that he was better bat than Botham.

All of it is arbitrary and made up.

What's your criteria? What ever it is is also arbitrary and made up. Just because someone disagrees doesn't invalidate it.

I gave mine and the rationale behind it, it's as valid as any.

The persons criticizing aren't even offering alternatives, it's just, yours is wrong.

At some point there's a cut off and saying someone is an ATG, means you can compete with the best of the best and compare favorably with them, that's not the case with some of the lower guys.

Yeah, all of a sudden performing away from home isn't a thing anymore.

As renowned home bullies go, Ashwin has never had ordinary returns at home against any opposition like Anderson has against Australia (averages 38 apparently). Something to put him above Jimmy within those narrow parameters.

Asking for someone to perform well away from home or the SC isn't analysis by checklist, and you know this. You accuse Subs of moving goal posts and you're doing the same thing now. Just to be able to prove your point, SENA now isn't a thing. So we can basically ignore what doesn't suit the argument or narrative.

And let's give a rest to the real world argument, because if that's the audience you're playing to, then why are you here and secondly the "real world" thinks Gavaskar and Sehwag are the best openers ever, Bradman is mostly a myth and most think Kallis is undisputably the greatest all rounder ever. Look at every fan voted ATG team, not to add Wasim opens every attack.
