Beat the Gillespie/McGrath record for the highest 10th wicket partnership against New Zealand.

well at least this one had an actual batsman doing the damage not a #10 & #11.

Only problem if Southee disappears now is that, with Jamieson injured, we are left with an attack of Henry + noobs. Jamieson's injury really is so deflating.

Hooray for Henry, probably his second best test innings performance (it's hard to beat 7/23).

Also should add that after that NZ were dismissed for a lower total than what Gillespie/McGrath made.

****ing finally. 270-280 I would've lived with thinking we should've got them at 250. 300 maybe. 400, and Australia could win by an innings tbf. Don't know what to make of 383 - gut says 130-150 too much.

Hope Mitchell and Phillips just go bezerk with run a ball tons otherwise we lose/draw.

Moss

International Captain
NZ cricket deserve this humiliation by making Southee Test captain and hence making him undroppable when he's so obviously no longer up to Test level. It means that not only do NZ basically go into a Test with 10 players with him adding nothing, but to make matters worse of course captain selfish gives himself the new ball & the best conditions & along with his usual selfish wasting of DRS reviews that are clearly not out.

Obviously he'll lose the captaincy following this series, with the selectors being under too much media pressure but way too late since this was an accident waiting to happen.

Also, how unjust does it all feel that Wagner gets told he's no longer in the picture while Mr entitled gets to carry on with supposedly no accountability whatsoever.
I was going to chime in with “wow, you think there may be some questions around Tim Southee the bowler and captain?” but yeah this, pretty much.

Easy to forget he was undroppable a year ago though. The fall seems to have been quite swift.

Southee has taken 2 wickets at 137 & a SR of 252 in his 2.5 Tests this season in spite of taking the new ball, and choosing when to bowl. We honestly think the next level down, the likes of Smith, Duffy, Ferguson would do worse?

Captain Obvious sez, matchwinning 10th wicket partnership there.

I do think pitch has slowed a little, even allowing for NZ bowlers bowling slightly slower backing up from yesterday. There's still plenty for the new ball and if NZ aren't four down by the 25th over that would matter.
