Take Ashwin out of spin conditions and he is like Philander in SC. Worse actually. An outright average bowler.

Definitely not. How can you say that when he cannot take wickets away, especially in England? Allround package should be able to take wickets in SENA pitches too. That the pitch is not providing assistance to spin is just an excuse.
Two wickets a tests and the occasional fifty is useful.

Jadeja in fact takes around 3 wickets per test outside India.

With the bat he scores a fifty plus score once every 5 innings (9 out of 45 innings overseas). He is more consistent than Kapil (15 in 98) and Imran (13 in 79).

81 wickets @ 32.72 and 1212 runs @ 31.89 in 28 tests is world class, not just useful.

His only issue is the sample size overseas.

If you followed my posts about Jadeja, I have been arguing about the sample size mainly relative to lack of SENA impact. The guy hardly plays a full series in any country.

Very impressive. Looking forward to watching him destroy Australia later this year.

I sort of glazed over a lot of ABdV's career, despite watching a fair bit of him, because of which he's, quite unfairly, registered as a "calypso" batsman in my mind. Obviously had many more gears than just that and his stats are well-rounded enough to pull him ahead of Ashwin.

These are clips of ABD vs Mitch Johnson during his monster series in SA in 2014. I mean, look at these shots.

I have no doubt that ABD would have been a genuine ATG if not for missing out maxing in his peak years.
