Isn't pitching in line not about whether half the ball is in line with the stump, but whether the ball actually makes contact with any part of the pitch that is in line with the stumps; i.e., à la tennis or other racket sports?

The reason being he turns it a lot but is inaccurate so on minefields he can run through a side.
Is this the reason you’ve decided? Stokes saw a video package of him bowling to Alastair Cook and they went from there. It would be hard to describe him as inaccurate yesterday as he got his line spot on.

I’m not saying he’s going to be our best since Swann or whatever but I also think you’re reaching the wrong conclusions.

It's been a fairly close series so far. Technology isn't perfect but it's got to be 10-100x more accurate than umpires fickle judgement. It's a real pity the beloved ICC in their wonderful wisdom won't let us actually trust the tech for more than just where the ball lands - even 20 or so years after it became available. Makes me wonder if there might actually be a more sinister reason (other than making poor umpires feel like human coat hangers) for leaving marginal decisions more under human control.

Look, ataraxia. I'm gonna be frank. I dunno the rule. I'm not taking your word for it. I'm not looking it up. All I do know is that the moral victors appear to be England once again.

And when we review the cameras in the trucks to see if there is cheating going on and they come up with two reds and an umpires call, where do we go from there?
Well in this particular case, Joe Root goes on batting, is currently 136* and England win by 302 runs

What happened to batsmen getting the benefit of any doubt? These marginal calls by DRS are frustrating to batsmen and supporters alike.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah and it's just as stupid now as it was then.

The batting might be a bit underwhelming and the team might underachieve in general, but "if you don't think you can play well away from home against one the best few teams in the world then you should turn it up" is dumb. Plenty of players should be playing international cricket even if they'd suck in that situation.
I am not sure what your point is. I meant any side playing against THIS Indian side, even in India, should fancy themselves winning. Its like how Ganguly came to Australia in 2003 and in the first mixer, enquired who their next best bowlers were since McWarne wont be playing. It does not mean its easy but teams touring SHOULD recognize this is their best chance to beat India in India. I said it about Australia in early 2023. You may not get this good a chance next time. This applies now to England and probably later this year to New Zealand.

No, this is still dumb. Sorry but the bowlers are still good enough to not expect mediocrity like in the past.

"should fancy themselves winning" isn't the same as having the best chance to win.

I don't know about fancying themselves to win but playing against this depleted an Indian team should be a huge ****ing carrot to dangle in front of any touring side. Surprised at our depth, there's been a few really nice finds over the past few Tests for us.

Was always on the cards.

India being on the same level as other teams is not sustainable.

Eventually India will pull away.

I agree with this at least when we're at home. Remains to be seen how these new guys go away but yeah, we'll always be a very difficult team to beat at home
