Andy Flower as a wicket keeper ?

GIMH

Norwood's on Fire
Not that this particularly matters but I reckon that had Gilchrist not been keeping, he would have been a shoe-in for a top four spot in the Aus order.
Most probably, but tbh having him at 7 was just amazing really. So demoralising, work your way through that top six then get that **** smashing you about. I remember thinking we were still just about in the game at Perth in 06 (bearing in mind this is me) and then he came out to bat. ****ing hell.

How many of the community have actually seen him keep wicket? And how do you rate him?

Better bat than Gilchrist against spin. Gilly better against pace. Don't know much about his keeping. Have seen some negative reports before.

Flower is significantly better than Gilchrist as a Test batsman. Flower infact in his own regard is one of the legends of late 90s and early 00s.

Batting: Gilchrist > Flower
Keeping: Gilchrist >>>>>> Flower
Weird Face: Gilchrist = Flower

Can't believe some in this thread thought Flower was a better keeper than Dhoni. Was there a paint sniffing epidemic back in 2012 by any chance?

Well, Gangnam Style came out that year so I'd say that's pretty close.

I’d say they’re quite close as batsmen, not sure which way I’d go off the top of my head tbh.

Don't remember him ever dropping any particularly huge bollocks, I have to say. Cut above the Dhonis and Haddins of the world, in my estimation.

Disagree he was a better bat than Gilly tho. Different kind of bat and, good as he was, you never quite got the idea he could take the game away from you like Gilchirst's flashing blade did.

Of the previous posts, only BB seemed to have actually seen his keep and his estimation wasn't that bad. Rates him above Dhoni and Haddin

The opinion that Flower was a decent keeper is perpetuated because very few people outside Zimbabwe ever payed attention to it and they just see that he kept a lot so assume he must have been ok. Zimbabwe also doesn't have a massive rabid fan base to disparage his keeping and bring it to everyone's attention.

They do on their own forum.

Flower is wasted on keeping anyway. You want a guy like that completely focused on batting.

They did it to Brendan Taylor too.

I get slightly triggered when people pick Flower as a keeper in an ATG scenario. First of all he doesn't need to keep, he's a good enough batsman. Secondly can you imagine a team of ATG or ATVG bowlers putting up with him keeping? If he was ok at best keeping to Zimbabwe bowling how is he going to be with a world class spinner and seam attack? Probably cost more runs keeping compared to a Sangakkara/Dhoni/Ames than he's making with the bat in total. Better off picking a hypothetical specialist keeper that would average 5 with the bat tbh
