this one is for home tests, with ajaz and A.N. Other getting a run as specialist asia spinners.

jamieson

could have gone conservative here and retained nicholls and southee but im gonna say nicholls, who always looks ugly when he's making low scores, will have a run of cheap outs and be dropped and southee will follow the trend of young kiwi debutants and call it a day early but only after a summer of his favourite hobby - routing subcontinental batsmen and some englishmen before hitting some sixes.

climate change will ensure it's either too droughty or too moist for specialist spinners so rachin gets the duties and mccullum takes over as coach and goes full macho with the two 150kph bowlers, jamieson and old man boult. ish sodhi will die in a tragic knife fight because baz has a soft spot for him and sodhi being selected doesn't suit the narrative im pulling out my arse here so we need ish removed from the plot.

post yours, narratives encouraged.
This actually wasn't bad.

I think that was something we all wanted from Henry, but we had varying degrees of optimism whether he'd actually do it. Credit to Steve.

Thanks brother. I watched him on debut (I think? Certainly early on) in the Ford Trophy, hurrying up Tim Mc who was a test player at the time, and I thoight **** there's a player here. And all the FC guys rated him highly

Henry and Nuttall in combination as youngsters looked like the Cantabrian answer to Southee and Boult.

Half right, which tbf is more than we can say for the CD quartet of the same era (Milne, Wheeler, Small, Bracewell).

Tbf to those CD guys, Wheeler never got picked in the right format, while Small and Milne were wrecked with injuries. Bracewell will always have Hobart.

Not sure if warner will still be kicking around at 37, he's extremely fit and missed a year with sandpaper gate, so I think he will be, but hey'll be in his last 6 months. Carey will replace paine and be ****e, getting replaced by paine's rightful successor, inglis. Little but left of centre but think haze will break down sometime in the next 3 years, and really wanted some lower order hax, and Sutherland is gun anyway.
Holy **** I was wrong LOL.

Kiwi's seem to be pretty much universally agreeing that Southee will be gone in 3 years. It's possible, but important to remember that he's still only 31, isn't exactly going to be in a position to cash in on IPL dosh, and he's been NZ's leading bowler on home soil in the past 2 or 3 seasons. I reckon in 3 years the attack wll be Boult, Southee, Jamieson and either Ferguson or Sears.
Not completely right, but got spot on with Southee (who did play in the IPL but not other leagues).

I did also say Santner would find a way to be there as a #7 spinning all-rounder, Jamieson would be there, Young would be shoehorned in as an opener, that Nicholls would find a way to hang on for a few years, and I'd also consider GP at 6 + mention of Rachin (albeit as an opener)

I have a giddy feeling with all this stuff

Warner I think is gone by 2023. Who opens with Pucovski could go anywhere, I hope for Renshaw but I can't see him ever moving back up the order. Maddinson could be a good Plan B I guess but he rarely opens at FC level. So I'm taking a punt on Street, if only because I like his style and seems to know how to stay out there.

Middle order picks itself, with the likes of Renshaw and Patterson somewhat unlucky. Head I guess is the most vulnerable.

I think Carey is the golden boy so gets a significant crack at it after Paine, but I still remain unconvinced. Tricky to know the long-term option there as none of the wicket-keepers seem to be doing much at Shield level, though Inglis has improved recently.

Bowling attack - I think one of Hazlewood/Starc will go by 2023. Which one I'm less certain, but I'm guessing Starc as he's a year older and a bit more injury prone. I hope Richardson is over his injury problems by then, otherwise our longer-term bowling stocks look kind of worrying - I'm not sure Sutherland has the pace, whereas Bartlett is still very untested.

50/50 as to whether Lyon is gone by then, 36 is old but it's not quite ancient so I think he has one more summer left in him by that point. Swepson should be getting some games in places like the subcontinent at that point though.
8 out of 11.....I'll take it I guess. Think Pucovski and Richardson might be in the side but for injury as well. Only really Street looks badly wrong.

I guess I'll make an attempt at 2027 as well:

Renshaw
Ward
Labuschagne
Green
Head
McSweeney
Inglis
Cummins
Bartlett
Murphy
Vidler

Much tougher as the current Oz side is quite old and likely to lose a heap of names to retirements. I feel somewhat confident about the middle order but even then Head might be close to being found out, McSweeney's FC stats aren't all that impressive yet, Green's still finding his feet and even Marnus has been in dodgy form for a while. Carey and Inglis are close, I think 2027 might be too long for Carey but I might be underestimating him.

Openers are a nightmare with Khawaja and Smith likely to retire by that point, Pucovski's too unreliable to predict and even Renshaw I'm far from convinced on. I might be reading too much into Burgey with predicting Ward but I do like his style. I reckon Dixon and Konstas have real potential but they're still going to be very young by 2027 so will need time.

I realise I'm going out on a massive limb with Vidler, but he has speed and an excellent length. Given that most of the post-quartet quicks either seem too unfit or lack X-factor I wouldn't be surprised if we roll the dice on him. Whether Bartlett stays fit is a big query but he does have the talent, much more so than Morris who feels a one trick pony.
