Seems kind of remarkable that on a day where an Indian opener scored a near double century, and every other batter reached double figures, at the close of play it would still be "England's day". And yet here we are.

I’ve noticed the Indians seem to be picking Rehan’s googly which Pakistan struggled with on his dayboo.

Not sure I buy that it isn't India's day. That's quite a number of runs to have on the board, barring of course the last four wickets getting knocked over for 30 or less.

Is it though? If India get knocked over before crossing 400 that'll be a fairly underwhelming result.

Good day's play. We got carried hard by jaiswal, the rest should be ashamed. The shots by axar and bharat at the end were embarrassing. Thought bashir looked quite decent. Kept it tight and on spicier decks I think he could trouble batsmen with his bounce.

England's day because of those two wickets at the end. It's really changed the way this day should be looked at.

Ashwin isn't the batsman he was 5+ years ago. 400 isn't that likely. And this looks like a total road.
Yeah this looks like the slow Indian road of yore were anything less than 400 first dig was risking getting run down with ease and then the infamously tricky third innings comes into play. It's not a bad score but it's not going to be what it should be either when your opener is 180* at the end of the day's play.

I think inkling wickets out when there's not much assistance on offer for the bowlers is something Stokes does significantly better than Root as a captain. Single biggest difference between the two perhaps.
What Stokes did well today was ironically what commentators keep hating on - defensive fields.

No point giving away easy runs in easy batting conditions and making your job later even more difficult.

That said he did get a bit lucky with those 2 gifts at the end. Without that India were quite comfortable.

Can't judge a wicket until Zak Crawley has batted on it

Patel’s dad should have left him on the soap. What a terrible shot late in the day at such an important time. Woeful

India were 249/3 and now 87 more runs with the loss of 3 wickets. Not sure where you are getting 4 wickets for 30 runs
