What will Pat Cummins’ legacy be?

Red

The normal awards that everyone else has
Lots of comparative clickbait stuff doing the rounds comparing him and McGrath at the same point in their careers. Very similar avg and SR. He’s 30, and injuries aside should have at least a few more years in the game.

He takes 4.5 wickets a test and has a phenomenal SR. Will pass 300 wickets in the next year or two.

Where does his legacy land? Top ten quick of all time. Top twenty? Top three? Conceivably a contender for the best ever?

Some more performances in Asia probably wouldn't hurt his record? He had a monster series on those roads dead pakistan pitches in 2021, but he averages 29 in bangladesh, 33 in india and 60 in sri lanka. The thing that really sets your marshall's, hadlee's, and mcgrath's apart in my head atleast is there ability to dominate consistently in Asia and I don't know if we've seen cummins do that.

Could also do with another 2019 esque series in england, I guess. His overall record is still fine, averages 27, but he really struggled in the back half of the recent series over there.

Yeah this plus big hauls. He takes awful lot of 3 for 40s while bowling really well but his best is 6 for something I think and a top ten fast bowler needs a 7 fer at least. Obviously Starc downhill skiing at the tail does not help

Though he started taking more fifers which is a good thing

I think if he manages to improve his record in Asia, especially India; he could very well be a Top 10 quick of all time. Right now, top 5 is looking dire; but is still very possible if he manages to land Aussies a series win in India and some more match winning performances in English tour.

I'd have him in top 15 quicks, right now. Depends on his longevity how much further up he could go. His performance is clearly not a top 3 or GOAT though, either at any peak or overall. He's no Marshall, McGrath, or even Steyn. But that's no knock on him.

I think he's around top 12, 13 for me. Record isn't perfect and as some have said, the upper echelon is our if reach, but not the too 10. He's penetrative and his captain has a knack for bringing him on at the right times.

Hard for me to mark Smith and Warner down so much for muh roads at home and not equally rate Cummins very highly. As some have said it'll depend on his longevity for me but I think he's destined to end up in the top ten for me, if not even already there. I think I'd probably already have him in the AT Australia side over Lindwall.

Needs to keep playing and keep being good, or maybe become slightly better, in order to have a top tier claim.
You’re saying he isn’t a top tier quick, averaging low twenties and striking at less than 50 per wicket?

As a captain I'll never forgive him for letting his team score at 2 runs an over in that 4th Ashes test knowing rain was around the corner.

The game was safe as a house, and Aussie should of been pushing hard and climbing all over them.

Instead they fall a wicket short of a clean sweep, and all we see are the English smiling and celebrating like they won the series.

Hell of a great player though.
