That's squad selection, which is a different scenario from bringing someone from outside of a squad straight into a team. And the message is the message to players, not other countries as they couldn't care less about the way squads are managed.

I genuinely thought the likes of Umesh, Shami, Bumrah were going to be the heralds of a new era of consistent Indian fast bowling, but the lot they're turning to now makes me wonder if the Wheel is returning with a vengeance.

I really feel India should have been more pragmatic, make yourself hard to beat play an extra batsman or play Ashwin and Jadeja together and rotate 3 seamers there is enough in the SA pitches for 3 seamers willing to toil to get the rewards , what we learnt in Centurion is that you don't need lots of pacers you just need consistency from 2 or 3 it's the runs that dictate the game.

i would have played Ashwin instead of either Mukesh or Prasidh tbf since this is like that tail Sri Lanka once played against NZ

They might also have been relying on guys like Nagarkoti and Mavi turning into something other than a reliable source of income for sports doctors and physiotherapists.
But you can't plan around certain future bowlers (imagine if we'd had to plan around James Pattinson, or Cummins for the first several years of his career) and need to maximise what you've got. Natarajan showed that, while he mightn't ever be a great bowler, he's got some skills and some smarts. Unless he's been really injured it's crazy he hasn't played FC since.
Those are players who were dropped from the squad..not players brought in from the outside and leaping ahead of someone in the squad.
Last we did that was the Zondo/Elgar ODI incident. Do we really want a repeat?
