Test XI of 2023

Ali TT

International Vice-Captain
Guardian picking woke bloke Cummins as captain has nothing to do with his mediocre cricket record this past 12 months.

Absolutely agree with him, but the incorrect selection of an Aussie cricketer in a hypothetical select XI is the exception to the rule.
Captained his side to winning the World Test Championship & World Cup in the same year. Not to mention retaining the Ashes in a hostile environment against cheating hosts with the umpires on their side.

Deserves selection as captain for that alone

Pat Cummins should be the first bowler picked in every world XI every year for the entire time he plays cricket. He’s head and shoulders the best bowler in the world, and every other country would chew their non-dominant arm off to have him in their team. The only bloke who gets within a bulls roar of him is Bumrah and unfortunately he’s been injured a lot of the time (I’d still pick him too). You can’t compare quality like that with numpties who pull a random good series out of their arse like Woakes and Wood did before returning to the abject mediocrity which has characterised the rest of their careers. Geez, it wasn't exactly a standout year for consistent Test performances, was it...when 4 of the top 7 in that side averaged less than 50 and none of the frontline seamers averaged 26, 29 and 33.

Began the English summer opening the bowling and ended it hiding away from Zak Crawley at first change. FRAUD

Fair play to Cummins though for having the 12th best bowling average in the most important series he plays in Test Cricket.

Yeah but what’s that got to do with using it as a pejorative?
It is no different to one group calling another by their 'given' name. I've heard 'hippy;, 'green' etc used in the same way. It's a tactic that you have utilised on more than one occasion.

Of course I have, and deservedly so. Especially towards Tory filth, because it’s not possible to be conservative and a decent human being

Reading it again not full of Bailey’s, Cummins legit has no business being in that side. His overarching narrative with winning the WC is good, but Test team of the year? No
