Considering Dhoni to be the best Indian Test Wicketkeeper/ Wicketkeeper batsman; who is the second best? And in case you think Dhoni is not the best Indian keeper, select that option and the one you think is the best.

Engineer by far the better keeper by all accounts, but I really don’t think it’s a contest despite the lack of longevity for Pant. Pant’s improved his keeping and has been twice the batsman.

Wicket-keeping only. Ignoring batting.

1. Kirmani
2. Tamhane
3. Khokan Sen
4. More
5. Navle

Janardan Navle would have added to his two Tests had England's first Test tour to India not been cancelled twice in 1930 and 1931 due to political factors in India. The 1933-34 trip was almost cancelled as well after Indian objections to the shortage of "star names" in the MCC party.

Navle age 31 kept immaculately as usual during the first match of this series but was then replaced by a more sold batsman, Dr Dilawar Hussain, who went on to become a distinguished administrator within Pakistan cricket.

For Cricinfo's all-time Indian XI in 2010 the wicket-keeping shortlist comprised Tamhane, Kirmani, More, Mongia and Dhoni, with Dhoni getting picked. Given his batting and decent keeping, Engineer was a notable omission, although all four of India's leading spinners of the 1960s/1970s said that Kirmani was the superior wicket-keeper to their bowling.

Yeah, I remember that short list and was visibly confused by Engineer's omission. Kirmani might had been the better keeper; but with almost certainty Engineer was a better batsman.
Also, about Tamhane that list said that, "he never tried the impossible but seldom missed the possible opportunity ", a quote from Sujit Mukherjee; and that just doesn't scream Great keeper to me; like Evans, Jennings or even Wridhimann Saha...

Tamhane was rated highly at the time by Indian sources, including Dicky Rutnagur. Not as adept at snaffling half-chances as Evans or probably Jennings as you say.

Saha looked pretty competent when given the opportunity but you will know more about him than I do.

Yeah, one of the reasons I rate Saha very highly as a keeper is probably I have seen him play from very close and as far as I have seen; he was really athletic, rarely missed any catch and might be recency bias, but I have seen him take some really tough catches. For once, in Bengal cricket circuit atleast, he is rated generally as a superior keeper to Probir (Khokon) Sen.

Whatever it takes!!!
Saha was one of the few keepers who were always in position and very seldom had to dive even for some difficult chances. As a pure keeper, he is as good as anyone who has ever played in my time of watching cricket. Mongia was amazing to spin and solid against seam, pretty much what MSD was but MSD was obviously leagues ahead as a batter. Of everyone who has played for India as keepers in my time of watching cricket, its still MSD.

Hopefully Pant gets there.

Being a Lancashire supporter I've always had a soft spot for Farokh.

He was selected for the ROW side in the early 1970s which shows his ability with the gloves and was a fine attacking opening batsman, at a time when India were nowhere near the force that they are now.

He was not as good a batsmen as Pant or Djoni but he was the best keeper of the 3 of them.

Literally

Also not sure why would you want to bring in their respective occupations in to discussion
