***Official*** England Tour of the West Indies: December 2023

Norwood's on Fire
Where to start?

You can always rely on England to save their worst cricket for the W Indies! I swear we play better in Australia, we just have tougher competition.

Hopefully, Buttler plays no cricket after the T20's until the IPL. He clearly needs a break. But let down by the batsmen this time. I don't see Salt making it as an International Cricketer, just gets out to too many stupid shots, often when set. I'm wondering if it's time to can the Livingstone experiment in ODI's, unless someone can transplant some cricketing intelligence into his brain.

More seamer rubbish, good to see Archer training out there with the squad, maybe there's hope....
Livingstone bowled pretty well, did an okay job in the rescue job yesterday, got a grubber in the first ODI and didn’t bat in the second. But he’s the guy singled out.

Long live Liam Livingstone. Who’s better at him to bat seven and turn their arm over? Both he and Buttler are being wasted by having to come in early far too often.

I do agree with that, but he still got out to a stupid shot and had been lucky to survive that far. He was also batting when it had got a bit easier. Crawley and Jacks at least got out to good balls.

Livingstone's singled out cause he had a shocking WC and doesn't have the record buttler had up to that point.

Conversely we always play pretty well against England. I think pundit and media arrogance before each series, despite years and years of getting thumped in the Caribbean no matter what team we put out, helps give extra motivation. Tbh, I tire of that; I want to see them play with that level of passion against other teams.

Then in that case, those teams need to play Sweet Caroline on repeat for this to happen.

Our motto is not Rally round the West Indies

I read a conversation elsewhere where someone suggested that Shai Hope's a much better captain than Buttler, leading to the immediate response that Bob Hope was a better cricket captain than Buttler.
I have been impressed with Shai's captaincy tbf. Maintains attacking fielders and is quite proactive at trying to take wickets. We've had years of captains who just let 50 overs run their course (Jason Holder being the worst!), so it has been a refreshing change.

XI for the first T20I...

I think they should go with this team,

1. Mayers
2. King
3. Pooran
4. Hetmyer
5. Powell
6. Russell
7. Rutherford
8. Shepherd
9. Akeal
10. Joseph
11. Motie

His WC was woeful but singling him out from yesterday, or this series at all, doesn’t stand up
So at what point is it fair to single him out? He continues to fail in ODI's, I can only think of one match against NZ in recent memory where he's played well. He had a really good opportunity in this match to put his name forward, but he played like a headless chicken before eventually getting out to a daft shot (which should have happened earlier if he wasn't dropped or continued to get lucky).

Who you putting at 7 instead?

Valid question, and I'm not sure I know the answer. It probably sums up why Livingstone is still there and why Moeen had the gig for so long. But just because there are no alternatives doesn't mean we can't ask for more from under-performing payers.

The first T20I between West Indies and England on Wednesday will see a stop clock used for the first time in international cricket.

Okay then.
Good luck trying to implement that in the IPL.

Also, anything to stop teams rushing around for the first ball of an over and then having a good chinwag about the rest of it?

Some sports aren't time oriented. This game having countdown clocks seems out of place...like PLuto being a planet.
