Cricketer Of The Year
I understand incumbency at all but picking Marsh above Green is one of those things which in future years will be one of those things looked back on as obviously stupid. It'll happen though.

Pick the best batsmen in the country and work out the batting order after that.
Can anyone with access to the numbers post marsh's number's in FC for WA and Aus-A over the past few years? I want to say pick green cause marsh is really only getting picked on white ball form and two scores against a team who've never known how to bowl to him, but the only times I remember marsh playing domestic red ball cricket recently he made 70* vs the england Lions and an unbeaten ton for WA, so he may have quietly accumulated a good form patch in shield I can't remember.

I'd rather have Green opening than pushing everyone up a spot

Smith has been missing straight balls of late so I wouldn't want him at 3 and Heads game suits number 5 the best. There is a certain solidity in Marnus/ Smith/ Head from 3 to 5.

Green has a solid technique so who knows he might end up emulating Watson as an opener. But I'd rather not be funky and pick players for the spot. If Marsh is in a better shape to bat at 6, just pick him and bench Green. He is only 24 so he'll get chances
I'd rather open with Marsh and tell him to attack than **** around with the existing good middle order or the potential of Green.

Question is whether he can withstand the quality of test bowling which is above Sheffield Shield cricket. I think it was a big mistake not selecting him for the world cup so he can get the feel of the intensity of international cricket.

Look how well Ravindra went. I know Marsh is even younger than Ravindra but he is every bit as talented.

Y not open with Head?
He's so good at his current role at home that it could be a waste if it doesn't work out.

TJB is right that a bunch of Australia's good openers more recently were converted from the middle order, but they were usually either converted in domestic cricket for a short period first or they came into the role from out of the side. Katich, Langer, Watson, (Warner if you count him) etc were not killing it down the order in Tests when they were moved up. I'd like to stick to that precedent if we're gonna do it again. Ponting wasn't moved up one to fit Langer in, for example.

Marsh is the best option if we want to manufacture one IMO.

Marsh can barely bowl these days right? So Green > him makes more sense. It’s Pakistan at home anyways so let the kid make a few free runs.

Harris and Renshaw are both averaging only 31 in the Shield anyway so it really comes down to would you rather Green, Bancroft or a past it Warner in your top 6 for Pakistan

Honestly do think Green has a higher ceiling with the ball than Hardie does though.

Whether or not he lives up to that is another question entirely though
Yeah I agree, but whether or not letting him focus a bit less on bowling could help him live up to his batting ceiling is another consideration.

Lots has been said about how Green is a 'generational talent' and I agree, but I don't think his defining feature is actually that he could be the next Steve Smith. He has a high batting ceiling but it's not breathtaking. What's breathtaking is that he could probably become a Test standard specialist bowler instead if he focused on that - even though it's his second best skill. How to manage him and get the best value of out of all that is going to be the big question.

Can Warner become the 5th highest run scorer for Australia?

He needs 139 runs to go past Hayden and 157 runa to go past Clarke currently in 5th

Shots fired from wahab riaz already about haris rauf making himself unavailable for the tests. I dont think wahab riaz is going to be that good of a selector.
Wahab Riaz is not the right choice for the selector, I think Shahid Afridi should become the selector.
