Because he has an excellent record in SA, NZ, India and basically everywhere else..Joe Root still hasn't scored a hundred in Australia after 14 starts and averages 25 in Pakistan but no one labels him a htb.
I find it hard to criticise either's overall record but criticism of Williamson's record in 'A' list seam/pace countries and Root's in Australia are hardly invalid criticisms agreed.Because he has an excellent record in SA, NZ, India and basically everywhere else..
KW is not a htb but he does not have a good body of work behind him away from home against the best teams. It’s kinda unlucky but it is what it is.
Still an ATG but it’s hardly an invalid mark against him.
edit: oops didn’t realise this was the match thread
This is an interesting choice of cross roads.KW's record since his first yorkshire stint in 2013:
Fair to say Williamson is the Sangakkara of this era? Yes lots of two test series, filling boots against ‘lower-ranked’ teams, and some holes in the away stats, but also some very memorable knocks abroad, and top efforts in reasonably bowler-friendly conditions at home. Certainly a joy to watch when on song, and at the least earned his place in the conversation. The fact that kw hasn't played as many games as his contemporaries only suggests he's as good if not better than them. Root has played 135 games, kohli has played 111. Kw has only played 95. It's not really debatable tbh
Kane is a level above Kohli and Root at this point. His away record just holds him back from being as good as Sachin/Lara/Smith I think but he’s not that far offKW's record since his first yorkshire stint in 2013:
6843 runs, at 65 with 26 hundreds across 70 tests.
Yeah he's underachieved in India and England but the guy is an absolute freak, and the questions regarding his status in the fab 4 are ridiculous. Joe Root still hasn't scored a hundred in Australia after 14 starts and averages 25 in Pakistan but no one labels him a htb.
It always struck me as noticeable how rapidly Kane improved once he started playing shedloads of fc cricket for yorkshire. Before that point he was a talented player who showed the odd flash of potential but was clearly a bit out of his depth. But from the 2013/14 summer onwards he looked so in control in all formats. Might've been coincidental timing, but he wouldn't be the first future great to play a couple of seasons of county cricket and emerge as the finished article. This is an interesting choice of cross roads.
Smithy was probably in a similar position to Ravindra at start of his career. No overwhelming reason to replace Warren Lees with Ian Smith, unless you think he's a an incoming generational 10-year player - which they did."He has to play at home, he deserves to, and our crowds, if they come, deserve to see him." | Smithy's Sermon (29/11/23) by Mornings with Ian Smith
Smithy’s Sermon. Today Smithy talks about the Blackcaps team for the first test v Bangladesh, the omission of Rachin Ravindra, his Crowe-Williamson factor, being a genuine world star, Glenn Phillips the pick of the bowlers & moremegaphone.link
Don’t know if that link has worked but Ian Smith on the radio yesterday, essentially saying he was shocked Rachin wasn’t in the playing XI for this test. Goes on to say that during his time he is one of only a few to be given international acclaim playing for NZ, that he reckons he’s a future superstar and that he’ll get kids and people in to watch the game. He actually called out Latham and Nicholls here saying they would never do that
Brought up Nicholls and his ****house run of form the last few years and said that even if he scored a double 100 last test against Sri Lanka why should that stop him being dropped when Ajaz can pick up a 10fer and have that happen to him.
We as fans definitely need former players, commentators, reporters, whoever has a voice calling out Stead and his bull**** unwavering loyalty towards older players.
I was just wondering why he reminds me of hypertensionTaijul has been the silent killer
