CW is obsessed with throwing around the term "choke" as some kind of gotcha ****post.

India were the best team throughout the majority of this world cup, but did show a few signs of weaknesses. Australia's (very good) bowlers got the ball to reverse which presented some of the harder first innings batting conditions seen in the World Cup and they posted a subpar score when India's weak tail was exposed.

"Choking" should be reserved for giant blunders, mental breakdowns, undeserved collapses or when the odds are 90%+ in your favour and you give it away.

India just weren't the best team on the day.

South Africa who have the historic tag fumbled needing

1992- 22 off 13 (technically not their fault that the rain made this 22 off 1 but still makes a later one more painful)
1999 - 1 off 4
2003 - 1 off 1 (Boucher playing the dotball not knowing the Duckworth Lewis calculation at the time)
2007 - getting rolled in the first 10 overs
2011 - being 108-2 chasing 222 and losing
2015 - dropped catches letting NZ chase 293 in 43 overs
Yeah, India have just lost these knockout games normally. They've not even played horribly in any of them, just performed marginally below their regular level, which is frustrating but hardly comparable to the supreme screwups some other teams have had in big games.

The 2021 wtc final was also a quite even, high quality game until India's batting collapse in the second innings. They weren't playing from behind for the majority of the game at all like this final. People just don't remember that game well for whatever reason.

But calling someone you disagree with is having a mental breakdown is acceptable 😂
How do you go on for pages like a lunatic that doesn't seem to know up from down then come up with a great riposte like this

I guess my defence is I technically never said "mental"?

Actually you are the one who is posting like a lunatic.
I actually asked @trundler to stop discussing pitch condition and accepted that Aus were deserved winners . But then you and Burgey decided to be ultra -aggressive and get personal with me . Now enjoy when this thread has become extremely ugly .

This one has definitely run its course.

You can all try again if you stick on topic but the "what did Steve Waugh really mean in 2004" and the "what power did Atkinson have over the pitch" discussions are done for this thread.

Most likely it's a reponse to a question from the Daily Telegraph reporter, like "What do you think about the bounce in this Perth wicket?". Do you think cricket is like pro wrestling* and Steve Waugh called a press conference just to say this?

*it should be btw

Not Terrible
Coz mate, it is not true. There is no fact that was reported. Yes, Atkinson was not consulted and he did not need to be. The change was recommended by the groundstaff to the ICC and ICC accepted it based on set protocol. Again, accusing anything more to this is just hearsay BS and its unfortunate u feel the need to go through it, esp. given the fact the pitch produced almost 800 runs.

You can believe any lies you want. Reality is not that.
Yikes
