***Official*** Pakistan in Australia 2023/24

Pakistan have announced their touring squad which means it's as good a time as any to start this thread, it's actually only a few weeks away.

For Australia presumably Lyon comes straight back in, questions over which of Marsh or Green gets the nod, but otherwise we know what the team will be.

First Test is at Perth from 14-18 December, then Boxing Day and New Year's Tests as usual. Given what the weather has been like over the last few months we even might get a full game in at Sydney for once.

Aamar Jamel is an odd pick. He's a t20 no rounder who bowls a few overs and hits a long ball, Dominic drakes type operator. Hid Fc numbers are nothing special either.

Made weirder by the fact that Faheem Ashraf is there already

Oh dear. Far better Pakistani squads have done a dismal job in Australia. I am shuddering at the thought of the shellacking awaiting this lot.

I don't have the stomach for this.

Its a well established fact that you need a C side to beat Aus in Aus.

I, for one, applaud these selections. They have tried their best. Now its upto Babar to ensure his kid is born after the first test, Shaheen to injure himself, and Abrar to break his back saving the game before the last test.
thats where pcb was smart and made the useless Masood as captain so that when he leaves the team wont miss him anyways

Shots fired from wahab riaz already about haris rauf making himself unavailable for the tests. I dont think wahab riaz is going to be that good of a selector.

Very disappointed (but not surprised) about Naseem Shah not being fit. Apparently they let him go play the LPL after he was came down with the shoulder injury, which is just diabolical management, and here we are.

Batting looks okay though I can imagine they will struggle if there's any bounce in the pitches. Shaheen hasn't really been at his best since his knee injury (could be his new best) and the rest of the bowling looks 2016 levels of diabolical, if not worse. Hasan is harmless when it doesn't reverse, Wasim doesn't have enough control. Haven't even heard of Khurram Shahzad although I follow the PSL somewhat. Despite being a 23 year old who's probably 25, he's played quite a lot of matches but his returns are only okayish. I think it must be a selection on his good QeA season. Hamza will be completely impenetrative, he's not fast enough for when the ball doesn't move. There's no-one in this squad who can bowl sustained pace, Ishanullah's fitness went in a very predictable direction unfortunately.

The spinner will be harmless as usual. I can imagine they'll play Noman after his recent performances. I'd rather see Abrar as he's more interesting, but I think he has potential to be cannon fodder as he bowls slowly with a gentle spin.

This seems like a lot of cricket

How are we immediately backing up for this after the winter we've had?

Lyon back in after injury only change I see as Marsh so out performed Green in Ashes (and WC) that selectors shouldn't give it any thought

Do WA have any more shield cricket booked in before the pak series? Green isn't playing the Indian t20s after sitting on the bench all wc. Wouldn't mind him getting some red ball cricket in advance if the home summer.

There's one shield round left before the BBL break. WA vs Qld at the Gabba, starts 28 Nov.

That was the reason given for Green not being in the T20 series: so he can play Shield for WA
