Rahul exists lol
No joke letting through all those byes and wides at the start of the innings really hurt IMO, it meant that there was no real scoreboard pressure being applied even when wickets were falling and no time were coming off the bat.

I guess the reason this hurts mroe than most is perhaps because we really did not play that poorly. Its the little 1 percenters that they kept beating us at. Head played and missed an entire Shami over there, for example. But maybe we could have had Siraj bowl one in the powerplay. No need to go to only those 2 for the entire powerplay. The batsmen seemed to play two soft shots and 1 needless aggressive shot and then we are bowled out for 240. I wonder how the Rahul Virat partnership would have gone had we had a Chahar and an Ashwin at 8 and 9. These things matter in today's LO cricket. And we have lost inspite of not playing that poorly at all coz the opposition were just that 5% better at every point and the luck you need to bring it back to even or your favor kept eluding us.
India having been playing this tournament at 10/10 level, and they played this final at a 7/10 level while Australia played at 9/10 level.

Really close game of cricket. I thought it unlikely that Australia would make it close to the end there, but they held their nerve and just about got over the finish line against the run of play. Couldn't have done it without the special Maxwell cameo at the end there.

Maxwell said after his heroics after that 201* against Afghanistan that innings won't have felt as much if they don't go on to win the tournament.

He gets the winning runs.. the fastest ever World Cup Century.. 1st Aussie ever to score a double ton in an ODI,first to do so chasing and now hits the winning runs to grab a winners medal.

Doesn't get any better than that.

I don’t think this heartbreak is comparable to WI in 96 SF or SA in 99 SF.
Just wasn’t our day . Congratulations Aus again 🇦🇺

It's a great day for some people, sad day for some. Just gotta acknowledge that Aus played better on the day when it mattered the most. Can't say whether I'm proud of this team for doing so well so far, or disgusted for throwing it away when it mattered the most. The only ones who showed some fight were Kohli, Rohit and Burma IMO

Regardless of whether conditions benefited Aussies more or not, their entire contingent show mental strength and hunger, which was only matched by a few on India's side

Bad luck to India. Been the best side all tournament but wasn’t their day. Completely dominating a whole tournament then losing the final must be very tough.

Not that we Australians would know, of course

Anyway, congratulations to all the Aussie fans here. Their best bowlers stepped up when it counted the most and their immaculate fielding and bowling to halt risk-free scoring by strike rotation won the game compared to our lackadaisical, unprepared and sloppy approach to fielding and strike rotation.

Our players simply weren’t ready to be tested in a challenging game after cruising through the WC and took the fundamentals for granted when they were. Australia fought and won through adversity repeatedly and are the most deserving winners.
