Top 10 postwar batsman, vs top 5 postwar all-rounder.

Spicier description: Slightly worse opener than Hayden, vs slightly worse all-rounder than Shaun Pollock.

I would be more sad if I missed Miller in a postwar draft, because that would mean I'd have to consider Botham, Jadeja, etc, who are a very definite step down.

I'd be less sad if I missed Hutton, as I'd still have good options like Sehwag, Lawry, G. Smith, and some others.

And Sehwag, Lawry, Smith are giant step downs, even more so actually.

Forgot Greenidge also (like everyone, apparently).

And Gavaskar
Hack compared to Hayden.

Something perhaps tangential to that I’ve noticed a trend with the “great” openers. Seems like most were either extremely defensive or extremely aggressive, its rare to find one in the middle ground.

Exceptions to this include Hobbs and Greenidge.

Hutton is one of the 3 greatest openers to have ever played the game and an genuine ATG batsman, beats out Miller for me.

Gavaskar ( and Imran and Hadlee in Miller's case) would be assumed to be no longer available , hence why I'm replacing Hutton with the next one down.

Of course, I'm also snapping up Hayden or Pollock as well in such a situation, even before Hutton or Miller, but those are hetrodox views.

The all-rounder is harder to find a less downgraded alternative.
