I do essentially agree with you. As for those signings, they needed a keeper, Onana seemed a good bet, it's not quite worked out so far. Hojlund looks a potential star, I'd give him more time. I have literally no idea what they were doing signing Mount, Chelsea must've been pissing themselves over that (and they're hardly Transfer Kings either).
One of the main reasons I'm so critical of ETH is that most of these signings are players he's managed before. To me that says it's more than likely him in charge of the incomings. It's also quite clear that he's out of his depth being in charge of recruitment and that's a job he should have left to someone else.

Had he been in a situation where the board was deciding who was being signed (similar to say Tuchel with Boehly) it would be far easier to be sympathetic and believe he just needs better players.

I think his ego will ultimately be his downfall.

Having the manager do transfers says so much more about the club than it says about ETH. It's hardly ego to think he can do a better job of recruitment than John ****ing Murtough.

If only we could get the recording of what was said between him and Rangnick.

There's a bloke who was already there and would have done a much better job

My understanding was that the Manure upper management happily threw him under the bus for the on-field performances and he had decided to call it quits before Ten Hag started.

The Rangnick thing is so odd, when he was appointed I was annoyed, thought it's exactly what they needed to turn them around, a supervisor for transf#ers and administration to facilitate a top quality manager. Yet they just kept him on as a manager which he wasn't suited too, then ditched him when he was in a position to do what he could do, and blamed ETH for not wanting him, despite the fact he should have been the one to get the new manager in.

Oh and it just seemed to be quietly acquiesced too by the press and fans.

All good though, as the farce is sure to continue as is.

Absolutely bombing as manager just destroyed his internal authority. But there are plenty of competent DoFs out there, it didn’t have to be Rangnick.

I thought they had a few conversations at the time, at least that's what I remember of the press around then.

He may have been on his way out the door but it came across as if ETH gave him a push.

Yeah, but the point is it just seems to have led them to abandoning the idea of a DOF, without even really trying one.

Murtough is "football director" and they hired some guy as "director of football operations" from Everton... the only top flight club that comes close to being as dysfunctional as United this past decade.

Especially when their brother is an agent.

Not even Pep gets to pick and choose his transfers. He probably has more say than most but Ferran and Txiki make the calls and do the business (often missing out on the players Pep wants).

I thought pep had enough clout to get then to buy anyone he wanted until they refused to go high enough for kane. Worked out OK as they got haaland instead

Pep obviously has input but he still gets told no when players are above the clubs valuation etc. It probably helps that he's been close friends with Txiki and Ferran for a long time.

Klopp probably has more of a say in the LFC recruitment than Pep does at City.

It's somewhat scary to think that ETH likely has more than both. That's saying something.

Everton given 10 point deduction.

Presume they will appeal and it gets reduced to 6. Makes it certain they are in a relegation fight again.

They have been incredibly lucky to get it this season. Still only two points behind Luton so very hard to see them being relegated.

That was my first thought too - taking the hit this year is probably best for them since relegation looks like it'll be easier to avoid than ever.

So it's funny, but still a "what could have been..."

They're actually not a bad team this season, and the three promoted teams and Bournemouth are all absolute dog poo, so they should still stay up pretty comfortably.

It is incredibly lucky. Feels like they've been within 10 points of relegation for years.
