We pushed both India and Australia pretty close, choosing to bowl first against Australia and South Africa hasn't helped either, played into their hands.

tbf I think for most of that time he’s been competing against other keeper/batsmen and, even if you’re not a big fan of his ODI batting, I think he’s undeniably been a better batsman than his competitors for that spot.
If there’s a compelling argument for dropping him it would be because Conway (or Phillips) can keep, but do we even know if this is an option that’s on the table?

Yes but I rate him highly, and from what I have seen, He will go right to the very top because of his work ethic. I first noticed him at Schools cricket, even at 16 years he was bowling 140+ ..
He will be an asset for years to come in SA cricket.
