Weatherald continuing his "I've forgotten how to bat" phase

edit: and now he's out. Surely that's him done for a while. Painful to watch

Going to Tasmania really has not worked out for either party, he's not even getting Shield games and doing SFA in the 50 over stuff

I had really high hopes for the guy a few years back, not great to see how it has all kinda went up the creek for him

This is unacceptable, and changing the coaching staff hasn't worked either.

I see a few ways out of this. They may seem radical at first, but hear me out.

Option 1. Introduce strict eligibility requirements to the Sheffield Shield. Want to play for an out of state team? Do your four years qualification first, as in international cricket.

Option 2. Scrap all Tests during the Sheffield Shield season so Smith, Cummins, Haze, Starc, Warner and Lyon can play. Drop Lyon for Green anyway, obviously.

Option 3. The Free Commonwealth of New South Wales secedes from Australia.

Just a reminder - Warner is retiring this year, Starc, Hazlewood and Lyon are all well into their 30's and will be retiring within 3 years. Even Smith is getting on a bit,.

The test players simply aren't going to be there.

So you're saying we'd get three years of vast improvement?

I'll take it.

Historically retired international players have often had a few dominant shield seasons post Test career. Less likely these days when they're retiring as millionaires I'll admit

I don't hate Bancroft as much as most here. I put Harris in a different tier of hatred. But I'd still prefer Renshaw at this stage.
See your point, I suppose in a way I kinda hate the whole narrative that Bancroft was shafted in the aftermath of Cape Town and is in some way deserving of "redemption" more than I hate Bancroft and his technique as a player itself. It really is a silly thing to take into consideration though, especially compared to Harris who is even more of a mess technically

He can at least catch too, which is more than can be said of Harris

Yeah I hate the Bancroft narrative as a cricketer too but I've always rated him as a better batting prospect than Harris.

Both are pretty depressing though. We wouldn't be talking about either if anyone else had put their hand up properly.

Agreed. Would probably be more likely to say less worse as opposed to better, but really you are pretty much spot on here imo

Also, what exactly was the point in QLD giving Sam Heazlett the arse only to still pick him anyway in every 50 over game so far?

The way I understand the domestic contract system, you get an automatic upgrade to the list if you play enough games a year, so if that is true it isn't like QLD are saving any money from that

You're only allowed to contract a certain amount of players now, so maybe they just wanted to spend the extra money.

"Don't worry, we'll still pick you in the Dan Hughes Cup and you'll get paid"

QLD is all over the place this season

Heazlett, Guthrie, Richardson (doesn’t play grade & has neither a Bulls nor Heat contract) and Aitken (has been in terrible form since coming back from u19s and shouldn’t be in first grade) selections are just strange
