Would have been funnier with Root as the other duck.
And Stokes instead of Kohli.Would have been funnier with Root as the other duck.
I'd sooner fall on luck as an explanation than mental demons (except when it's SA and world cups)They've literally bottom of the tournament. You just aren't going to convince me that this tournament is a straightforward reflection of the level of talent in that squad.
That dismissal should go in the Shannon Gabriel Hall of Fame as one of the worst in history. Truly village.Cricket Videos | ICC

yikes. stokes looked a full second late on most of these.
So your claim now is that England's bad batting has been more a case of bad luck than anything mental?I'd sooner fall on luck as an explanation than mental demons (except when it's SA and world cups)
Especially cricket where concentration, strategy and temperament are more important than most sports. So your claim now is that England's bad batting has been more a case of bad luck than anything mental?
I'm consistently baffled by people who refuse to countenance the importance of mental factors in elite sport. Hell you don't have to have exactly played a lot of sport yourself to realise it's hugely important.
It's also because batting in particular requires a fairly complex set of decisions to be made in a very short time, and done again and again and again basically perfectly. If you are mentally slightly off to the point that that decision making degrades then your results are going to fall off a cliff. It's very similar to tennis in that respect, in that mastery requires a mechanically precise set of actions and decisions to be made over and over and over again.Especially cricket where concentration, strategy and temperament are more important than most sports.
The mental factor is real but it's lazy to ascribe it to mental factors when we don't really have any evidence or indication that it could be the case.So your claim now is that England's bad batting has been more a case of bad luck than anything mental?

To be clear I'm not saying they're lazy or not trying. I think it's a collective loss of confidence first and foremost. It's even possible to be trying too hard. The mental factor is real but it's lazy to ascribe it to mental factors when we don't really have any evidence or indication that it could be the case.
And as I said before, they really gave it their all in the field throwing themselves around and saved a ton of runs. If they'd really packed it in, it doesn't tally with the effort they clearly put in.
It's definitely possible for a set of cricketers to hit their peaks and troughs as cricketers simultaneously.
A loss of confidence doesn't spring up out of nowhere. It's the outcome of some bad cricket they're playing and they can't seem to stem the tide. Its hard to point at it as the source of the problem when other actual cricketing reasons have become obvious. To be clear I'm not saying they're lazy or not trying. This is not a mental issue. It is an age old skill issue of england sucking in India. Long may it continue and bring on the bazball testsSo your claim now is that England's bad batting has been more a case of bad luck than anything mental?

Oh sure there have been severe mistakes in preparation and team selection and there are players who are past their prime. But like tough ****, you got dealt a less than ideal hand, these are all exactly the same criticisms that I and basically everyone else was making about the Australian team two weeks ago. But as professional sportsmen not everything is always going to be in your favour every single time so it's on them, as professionals and as representatives, to have the mental fortitude to come together and work out a plan for attacking the tournament rather than doing... whatever the **** it is they've done in the last three or four games.A loss of confidence doesn't spring up out of nowhere. The 2011 team was far far far more competitive than this with far less talent and pedigree. This is not a mental issue. It is an age old skill issue of england sucking in India. Long may it continue and bring on the bazball tests
They had far more talent when it came to playing balls that did an inch off the pitchThe 2011 team was far far far more competitive than this with far less talent and pedigree.
