Yep. Was a prospect as a young guy, playing #3 for ND when KW was away, but barring the smoking pull he wasn't all that good. Genuinely second teamer for a bit there I think.

Came back, got a bit of form under him and got a surprise call up to cover the allrounder spot for NZ. Did good on debut, then moved province to Canterbury to get space to be the big dog and work on his bowling and his batting against spin. He became this player then.

Phillips probably lucky to still be out there with the inside edges. I suppose that’s an indication it’s not easy to come out and belt the ball, but should go for it now.
