Yeah, a genuinely great comparison.

I'm going for Steyn on the cop out criteria of "great bowlers have a marginally higher impact on most teams than great batsmen" - but I think Steyn is basically to fast bowling what Lara is to batting.

That is cop out.

Steyn for me cos there is a very short list of bowlers I plausibly regard as his equal. It's a much longer list for Lara.

Good way to put it. It's a tough one. Both were virtually peerless when they got on a roll and the playing surface/quality of opposition basically stopped mattering. Steyn would be my favourite cricketer of all time if VVS didn't exist so I'm giving him my biased vote.
