If we can get 38/0 off the next 9 overs, then 90 off the last 10 using our wickets in hand, that's 270. Seems a fairly good score.

edit: beaten by centurymaker

Not Terrible
Athers saying that we would settle for a score of 260 or 270 now but even that is looking optimistic at this stage with how slow we are scoring.
I've heard a rumour people score quite a lot in the last 15 overs in these last uhh maybe 13 odd years of ODIs

Things have slowed down obviously but run rate is secondary at the moment. NZ need to set a platform.
I agree, Latham and Phillips are doing the right thing here, keeping wickets intact right now is more important than the run rate.

If we can get to around 200 with 4 wickets down and around 10 overs left then we can start to look to take some more risks to lift the run rate.

Latham's definitely the man you'd want out there in a scenario like this, but the spinners have really kept the lid on him. Nabi in particular.

I have patience/hope that we can improve our position here, but the batting over the last 10 overs or so hasn’t been good. Not a question of ‘intent’, just poor execution of picking up 1s and 2s

Yeah it doesn't get pointed out often here (because NZ in particular don't play that much ODI cricket of late) but strike rotation has long been an area of weakness for NZ.

I've said it before, but I do hate it when Phillips plays every ball from the spinner off the back foot

edit: oooh close 6er
Yeah makes him vulnerable to getting worked over. Can remember a T20 couple of years ago where Ashwin pretty much walked over him in 3 or 4 deliveries.

It's unexciting, but partnership of 50(75) exactly what was required to halt the mini collapse.
Yes but it’s also valid to say that 50(60) or 50(65) were even more required and were achievable with better (not simply higher risk) batting

Anyway, splitting hairs somewhat and it’s all going to come down to how we kick on from here of course
