Yeah it's terrible luck for him to get a fractured thumb from a throw rather than batting but they are hopeful he will be back later in the tournament.
I think we can cover him OK with Young or Blundell and at least we have a few early wins in the bank so we should still be able to make the semi finals.

Having Williamson fit and in form for that crucial stretch where NZ play Aus, South Africa, Pakistan in a single week looked a very good possibility, but we’ll be lucky if he’s back for even the last of those games.
Still, his unavailability is something NZ have had to factor in quite a lot in the recent past, so just need to get on with it. Meanwhile hope Will Young is able to put a rollercoaster week behind him and do the job he was selected for.

Blundell can't come in unless Williamson isn't returning though, or have I got that wrong?
Not ideal not having Kane there for important games against Pakistan/Australia/India/South Africa ...

Correct, he’s a travelling reserve like Jamieson for Southee. Right choice IMO (guess it was between him and Nicholls) but will only come in if Kane is completely ruled out.

Yeah it's not just Wiiliamson's batting we will miss, it's also his captaincy, Latham isn't a bad captain but it isn't ideal having your keeper as the captain.

I thought Latham did a great job with the (c) vs England, not too worried about that side of things.
