I want to have this thread to compare to how he does versus the Marshall thread.

Please no ridiculous opinions like Marshall goes over Tendulkar for his batting but not McGrath.

No need for such "ridiculous" opinions. I think McGrath is the bowling GOAT, pretty clearly in my mind, due to his longevity in terms of matches played in comparison to the other big 5 seamers. Also give McGrath the edge over Murali as well, who I place right alongside the big 5 seamers.

How do you compare Tendulkar and McGrath in terms of longevity?

I give both of them probably equalish points for it, McGrath's discipline is the harder one in which to have longevity in (and arguably the more impactful of the two).

It's close but McGrath. He is like the 4th greatest fast bowler and Tendulkar is 5th or 6th best bat. But McGrath is a bigger matchwinner.

There was the accusation that he wasn't as good at striking in a partnership with the old ball as the average immortal level pacer. Record in Pakistan and Sri Lanka isn't that great etc. But I would say he had a lower failure rate than Tendulkar. Batting is a lot more volatile. And it's hard to hold longevity against McGrath (and Hadlee) unlike with Maco.

McGrath.

You need two two Tendulkar's to match the impact McGrath has. Still I think McGrath is in front.

Players within last 50 years, other than for all rounders (who will naturally have more impact), Marshall, McGrath, Murali have more than twice the impact than Tendulkar. Bowling of Imran and Hadlee alone too.

Poor Tendulkar. Needing to score runs everywhere for 400 games over 50 years to match McGrath apparently.

It is not Tendulkar's fault that batsmen are more numerous. It is just the way it is and bowlers are more valuable as a result.
