Crazy, Lancashire have nominated a spinner (hartley) to replace a seamer (Williams). Kent will no doubt use a night watchman if required to bat, to allow Crawley to bat twice. This farce with players coming into the matches on the second day because of the One day International with Ireland.
Crawley will be jettisoned in tomorrow for Kent, others likely at other matches.
It is becoming a joke, maybe ECB should have scheduled these matches a little closer together.
I'm becoming increasingly disillusioned with the game.
Players like Gooch and Gower did not replace county teammates mid way through a match on day 2 or 3 of a county match. That's not a new thing anyway is it? I swear players like Gooch and Gower used to go straight back to the Championship when a Test ended, sometimes same day.
Anyway - still worried @wpdavid ?
You know your stuff so I’ll take your word but it’s what I genuinely thought had happened in the past.Players like Gooch and Gower did not replace county teammates mid way through a match on day 2 or 3 of a county match.
There was a case in 1988 when Essex named Gooch in the team for a match at the Oval even though the Test Match against Sri Lanka at Lord’s had yet to finish. Sri Lanka held out than expected and so Gooch missed the start of the match however he was not allowed a full substitute. You know your stuff so I’ll take your word but it’s what I genuinely thought had happened in the past.
Good to have you back, Carty.CHAMPIONS
BACK WHERE WE BELONG
Thank youGood to have you back, Carty.
Ah, shame on you for your lack of faith in your boys. So negative ....It is @wpdavid of course he is.
Guess you could say that this has made a result certain and Hampshire's bowling is so much stronger than the batting. Obviously Surrey probably just win the game easily.
Smart move, because he's right. My immediate interest is whether Jamie Smith will be able to turn out for Surrey tomorrow. You know your stuff so I’ll take your word but it’s what I genuinely thought had happened in the past.
Think it’s only 3 bowling points max.Ah, shame on you for your lack of faith in your boys. So negative ....
Anyway, four bowling points in the bag is a decent start, but Abbas and Abbott are always going to be a handful in the Autumnal conditions. As Sibley and Burns will already testify. And it's only a week since we failed to muster a single batting point against Northants, so that additional point with the bat is hardly guaranteed against a superior attack. But obviously we'll see. We might pass 250, but we might not. As for the result, who knows. iirc your lot were Ollie Pope'd last time we played you, and he's not playing this time. And Hampshire are a good side, as Essex supporters will tell you. It's 50/50 as far as I can see.
EDIT
I see that Northants have declared with wickets to spare to have a go at Essex in the gloom.
I think you're right about the bowling points judging by the latest table, so I guess we need 2 batting points to be certain. Which is even less guaranteed against Abbas and mates than 250 of course.Think it’s only 3 bowling points max.
I can’t see anything about a declaration?
They look good to get the bowling points but under September skies might be challenging pushing for a result.Yeah it could get interesting. Essex have a huge amount of work to do though.
